Played on the pitches as a kid beautifully kept most of the year - indoor centre next door why are we looking for a new academy we already have one -invest into a current asset

The indoor centre doesn't have the required facilities does it? And there's not the number of pitches required.

Apparently it's too small, isn't that why they wanted to move? I'd have thought there is scope for expansion around there though. Baffling!

For example Broad Lane RFC got land for a new training ground & a clubhouse out of a deal for their old ground didn't they?

Ryton worth more to the club to sell it for housing if planning can be obtained, they could sell and get new facilities built on the back of the sale, but will they do everything on the cheap to maximise the asset realisation value for the owners?

All in all it is a worry.. what is the motivation is it positive for CCFC or just something to stop Joy hurting?

Surely the club only own half the site now i.e. two football pitches - which is a bit pathetic for a league club training facility. I'm sure the Connection building and indoor astro are owned by another party now which is a real shame as the site has everything you need to accommodate a Cat 2 academy.

In truth Pete, I don't think the indoor part of the connexion would be up to it as is anyway. Ryton's a bit bigger than two pitches though isn't it? Been a long time since I was there but don't you have the pitches, a training area plus the offices, canteen and changing rooms. A fair size footprint I think, hence the value for housing.

In the old days division three players used to say that one of the reasons for moving to CCFC was that they were impressed with the training facilities. Times have changed, of course.

It's 2 pitches. But still a valuable asset for housing.
Like to think that any money made would all be used to develop a larger area with proper facilities.

Would gently differ - there's a bit of a training area and the buildings and car parks too (have just googled it). Regardless, I'd totally agree that I wouldn't mind selling it if we could come up with something broadly equivalent or better. Like you, I'm not daft enough to believe that that's necessarily going to happen though!

Sure there are the buildings, but as far as training "ground" is concerned I'm pretty sure we've the equivalent of two pitches and that's it which is quite poor for a league club, particularly as there isn't even a small 3G area. I think you're right, the facility did once impress new players in the old days, especially when we owned the Connexion, but then we lost it and some land while other clubs improved theirs and we got left behind.

Ok will clear up a few things , there were three pitches with the connection there originally

The third pitch went when they sold off the connection

The infrastructure of the training ground remains intact , its a great site

I remember in the early eighties a certain mr Ron Atkinson playing on pitch 3 in a charity match

It's nonsense it's going , just another down sizing of a once great club

And just to let you know I had my best shot of an air rifle on pitch one on a random Sunday afternoon in 1983 , I shot a homing pigeon open with iron sights at a 100 yards and killed it instantly

Stick that up ya chuff and smoke it !

I have been to a number of academies Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff, Bristol City, Watford and a few others, the Connexion building is as big as most of the building at those clubs but obviously needs re- vamping inside and pitches wise the same if I remember correct there are 4 pitches at Ryton just need doing up a bit,

There are just 2 pitches at ryton. We've had this debate before ryton plus connexions isn't big enough. For a cat 2 you need 4-5 grass pitches, plus an indoor 3G, plus an outdoor 3G pitch, then a building with changing rooms, learning rooms, physio/medical rooms, offices, gym, decent car park, etc, then you add in the first team's requirements. Its impossible on this site.

I'm sure There wasn't four pitches at Cardiff and the connexion building is certainly bigger than their building and if as what's being suggested we can use split sites where's the problem ?

Did you tell the owner? My best (as a callow youth) was a standing shot at a greenfinch at the top of a tall beech tree. Dropped like a stone. Carried the guilt ever since and now do all I can to encourage them in the garden. One of the most eagerly anticipated signs of spring is the return of the extended family to build their nests.

I'm wondering if the Connexction people are considering selling up for a housing development?
However the architect layout of the proposed housing estate that was published only covered the CCFC site.

So if the academy goes to finham park school and have to create a couple of pitches or more will that satisfy sport England and RBC then permit ryton to be sold?
