Amazing
There were similar comments to some of those on the Ponticelli thread when he was here if I remember correctly

Most people rated him to be fair - explosive pace has benefits

You're right about his pace of course
Ironically the criticism was for his finishing

Think it was just his all round end product, which Alot of players improve on with age anyway

He had an impact on games whereas in his cameos Ponti hasn't yet shown anything like that, just ran around a bit

Hmm, I think most people thought he was a decent player with no end product. Coincidentally or not, our season went very south once he departed. The difference between someone like Kent/L Thomas & Ponticelli is, they've been heavily involved in games & *IF* they can develop an end product they will go on to have great careers (I know Kent has got goals in his time at Rangers but I can't claim to know if he's actually improved in that regard, it is after all the SPL), Ponticelli hasn't ever shown me anything to suggest he could go on to have a career at our level let alone above. That's not to say he won't, and it would be hugely beneficial for us if he turns out to be a great player so I obviously hope he does, but from the appearances I have seen of him (I can't claim to have ever seen him in the u21s other than at Stratford Town once), his all round play is nowhere near at the level of Kent.

Yes, better to compare with Thomas from last year than ponti.
Both (Kent and Thomas) were young and developing, clearly quick and comfortable on the ball and an attacking threat (with assists and shots...), Just needed to polish finishing!
For ponti (who I haven't seen as much as those who watch the u23s and before), it appears his finishing is perhaps better at a similar age, but he doesn't get the space and time he is used too - nor does he seem as comfortable/quick with ball when attacking!

I thought he was great. Constant fear for the opposition therefore making space for others

He was very frustrating, bags of pace, and could carry the ball, but there was rarely a decent cross or pass at the end of it.
But I guess that was what he was sent here to work on, young loans are never the finished article, and it’s taken a while for him to develop.
I’m sure he will do well at rangers, they dominate every match, so he will find it easy to look good, and the quality of the opposition is very inferior. I think Scottish football will suit him far more than the English premier league.

Still remember one trick he did at the Ricoh near the corner flag.. best bit of skill I have seen for a long time and not something you see with Cov!

Yeah it helps when there's only 2 teams competing to win the league.

One of the most skilful players I've ever seen at this level. His end product was non existent but he stretched defences and created space for others.

That Kent/Maddison/Murphy/Armstrong front 4 was brilliant to watch at times.

He scored 6 and got 9 assists last season at rangers, so his end product has improved somewhat

Yep, they were brilliant together. I think some of the best attacking football I've seen us play for like 4 months.

Needed to leave a Liverpool, but not sure Rangers is the right move. Stepping stone move I’d say.

rangers are a big name no matter how much you wanna ridicule spfl and gerrard looks a very promising manager who gets best out of kent

regular game time
chance to win leagues and cups and become rangers hero
move on to different club(maybe evn back to liverpool with gerrard as manager) in 2 or 3 years

can see why hes gone

The same Gerrard that was outwitted by the mighty Neil Lennon at the weekend.

He's lost plenty of games though. Very average record so far and that's in a crap league he was supposed to look good in.

Sad thing is I don't know who he is, we have had that many players, I have lost all track of who the hell has played for us. Furthermore, apart from Jodi Jones, anyone of our players could run up and punch me in the mouth and I wouldn't have a clue who they were. Alzheimers is on its way or maybe already here?

Finishing 9 points behind the title winners isn't really being in the mix is it?

He's also had a far bigger budget than previous managers and Rangers fans are expecting success this year based on the money spent.

Let's wait and see what happens.

He's only lost 11 games in 73 to be fair , not exactly average in any league, that includes European matches and Cup matches

hes taking on an established juggernaught in celtic. only now are rangers giving him money to play with. and he has spent it to bring them closer to celtic. it was very close up until final weeks.9pts is not a massive gap anyway, especially not in scotland! and taking pts of spanish teams in europe is a sign of how far they are coming under him

you disagreed with me and now wanna wait and see what happens lol. if you had no conviction in your opinion why post in first place?

Well I was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt because you said Gerrard looks "very promising" which you haven't backed up so we'll see if he delivers on on this "promise" come May time..

In the mean time he's underachieving in a piss poor league.

No I didn't say that but they need to be competitive and close the gap and win some kind of silverware. Merely being 2nd to Celtic isn't enough and Gerard specifically went to Rangers because he's being funded to win the title.

Don't act like a Scottish team that just spent £7m on one player haven't got eyes on the title.

What?! Why do you continue to get involved with football convos when you admit you dont have a clue

9pts last year
12 before that

Gerrard only been their one season?!

Seeing as you're happy for Rangers to sit miles behind the world beaters Celtic and judge that as success then maybe he's not underachieving.

He may as well leave now as he's covered himself in so much glory.
