Good and excellent are two different words.

Have a look in the dictionary.

Like who? Mowbray is using Haynes as a last resort. I agree he's good enough for 4 or 5 games a season at this level.

Sorry Grendel, but how can you come to that conclusion? How is he using Haynes as a last resort? Stokes has been really good all season long and has deserved to keep his place.

Haynes is back up and has been on the bench a number of times. If someone else was there ahead of Haynes and getting chosen to cover Stokes and Haynes was pushed to the back of the queue then I would say you have a point, but do you really think TM would go into a season with just one left back and then one he would use as a last resort? If Haynes was last resort there would be someone ahead of him in the queue to cover Stokes.

Yes they are and you never used good. You made a sweeping open ended statement giving no merit to his performance.

If Willis and Johnson were still fit both Ricketts and possibly Johnson would have been the first choice left back options if stokes was injured.

Many thought Ricketts was going to start as a fullback.

I think the plan WAS to play Ricketts at full back wasn't it?

I am not so sure Johnson would have been first choice left back. He's always looked all at sea over there.

For me Haynes should go out on loan and get some game time. We simply haven't got the cover though to allow that to happen at the moment.

And maybe if we had brought another 2 players for that position.
Maybe maybe maybe.

I didn't think Jordan Clarke was so bad myself. He had some cracking games for us and then some awful ones, so I guess it was his lack of consistency. Similar scenario with Aaron Phillips at the moment I would say.

still mean what i said about great improvement but just seen gillingham goals and wtf was he doing for their 3rd goal? gave away ball in box and then took the players legs out!

until he eradicates dumb shit like that i am not sure i will ever be confident in him 100%

*apologies if it was willis and not clarke*

I dint think that's too bad! I still credited his improvement

Difference here G is that I watched footage and saw something I didn't like

You didn't go game and not seen highlights when you said I highly doubt he did well. That's the comment people want you to explain

Be a hater all you like by all means, just don't overstep into troll territory by refusing to acknowledge anything that goes against your views

That’s the best I’ve seen from Ryan since I arrived at the football club. He did well defending and attacking and he proved that he can play left-back for our first team.
The opinion of TM on his performance on Monday.

Hope he's right. We need another string to our bow and the good thing is, if Haynes is playing well we can stick him wide left midfield. I'm not talking about from the off, but if there are say 15 mins left and we want to kill a game off. Have him play in front of Stokes as an extra bit of defensive cover.

Interesting with those comments as to whether TM might consider Stokes as a more permanent centre back solution and put Haynes at left back?

For me having Haynes and Phillips is all a bit too lightweight. I like Stokes because he has a bit of steel about him and some muscularity.

I think if we had another match-fit left back for cover, Haynes would have gone out on loan to get some games and experience under his belt. It's all he's lacking really; look past the errors and shortcomings for what they are, novice mistakes.

I think 6 months on loan to a L2 side would do him the world of good. If, of course, we have cover for Stokes.

I too stick up for both Clarke and Thomas. Thomas gets an unbelievable amount of criticism on here. Clarke was his own worst enemy at times, but showed competence at others.

I also have stuck up for Thomas who is perfectly adequate as a reserve division 1 player to be called on for cover for a few games a season.

That's what annoys me to be honest. How some players get hugely preferential treatment for their youth but others don't.

He is for some reason the whipping boy on this forum.

You don't really get bad games from Thomas just average to below average as he's a cautious player.

Really good today. Played with passion and drive. Even some quality. Defiantly improved of late even Grendel would admit if he was there today?

Yes he looks like he is getting better every week.
Wasn't beaten once never gave the ball away and did some great 1-2s with murphy.

But..but...grendel said he's appalling and incapable of putting in a good performance?

I'm confused. How could grendel be wrong? Surely not?

Cole also had a good game...

Good to hear he had a decent game but to be fair there's a big difference between defending against Crewe and the games coming up against Burton and Walsall.

Of course you can only play the team in front of you so lets hope we do the same again in the next game!

So would you drop stokes for him then when we get a centre half?
