Think maybe slightly out of our league? I know he managed Preston yonks ago but since then hasn’t he only managed Premier League teams?

Lampard would still be my preference as he’s more experienced, I reckon Ruud would jump ship at first opportunity if he got us playing….he’d get our strikers firing though

Funny how people who are dismissive of somebody like Smith (promoted from the Championship having inherited a team underachieving) are keen on this appointment. What's the actual criteria?
They’ve proven themselves as coaches, just not yet as the number one. Carsley and RVN have shown a bit about them as England and Man U interims. The latter has decent results as PSV manager. Lampard has done well in the Championship and has a Top 4 Prem finish on his CV.TBF so far they're high calibre players mostly as yet unproven as coaches

I would defo have him here , plus he would open the door to some talent from scumchester maybeI think the way he conducted himself at Utd was full of class - tough spot to be in, at a club he loves, but he maintained his dignity and was a proper professional even once it became clear that they were going to be bringing in Amorim.
This interview he did with Gary Neville also painted him in a good light - he seems intelligent, level-headed, and keen to learn in a way that I haven’t generally seen from the English players of that same generation as they have moved into management - Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, et al. his background is also super humble and I think he would understand Coventry as a city and a people from that perspective
I also think his experience and knowledge of the Eredivisie will be useful beyond what we’d get from other candidates - if he can bring us a few more MvEs that would be ace, plus his name is likely to attract talent, I’m not sure that’s the case for many others on the list of candidates.
I’ll tell you what, I will love it if we get him. I think he has the potential to be a fantastic manager/head coach/whatever we’re calling it.
I won’t disagree with this because the feeling is mutual. It’s not just Robins and AV though because the ownership is actually serious about promotion and has shown themselves willing to invest good sums into the project to make it attractive for a lot of coaches.I still don't like it , doesn't change just because we appoint a good coach with a big name.
Really it's because of the work he's done with adi that's allowed us to become a club that's attractive to people like this

Someone like RVN could easily us as an engine to forward his own career in a similar way as Kompany and Maresca did at Burnley and Leicester.Football has changed a lot since Smith had any success.
RVN is an interesting one as he has always coached in elite environments so must have picked something up? In his one season as manager he won the Dutch cup, shield and second to Slot's feyenoord.
Element of risk with all those linked but he is the most exciting name for me and possibly has the biggest potential.

They have brand recognition, experience coaching at elite clubs. Promotion to the Prem and even a mediocre season staying up could lead to job prospect at bigger clubs.
With all these names in the hat, it’s unlikely we get them for the long term if they do a good job with us. It’s the the exact opposite as Robins.
