I vaguely remember him with Holland in the early 90s and a tiny fraction of his later years at Milan.
Chelsea he was past his best, though still quite good

I always remembered him as big, good in the air and quite skillful

How good was he in his prime years

Brilliant. The 3 Dutch lads for AC and Holland were outstanding.
Remember him in a 2-2 draw against England at Wembley. He hardly touched the ball but caused mayhem with his movement, creating space by dragging players all over the place as they tried to double mark him.

Unbelievable player. Proper all-rounder, he could play any position and rival the best players on the pitch. Bet he was good in goals too, makes you sick really

that was when Italian football was at its pinnacle. Gazza was also very good in the England game I referred to and he was in Italy as well at the time as was David Platt.

Italian football in the 80s and 90s early 2000s.. Il tag you a couple teams on here... Just look at the quality

Infact I'd argue upto mid 2000s it was just an immense league

Those first 3 were mid 2000s... Bottom 2 early to mid 90s....just incredible.... I really miss football from Back then... The golden period late 80s to mid 2000s that 15 or so years was simply ludicrous for talent

And ofcourse... The main man Ronaldo nazario at inter

There's a few quids worth of talent in those photos.
Also back in those days there was very little football on TV and the pubs shut at 2 or 3 on a Sunday so a few pints followed by a live game was a treat. Now you can watch Sunday games all day but back then different story.

I remember having a discussion on here once and relaying a quote from Xavi Alonso where he said if he makes a tackle he has failed and they said it was bollocks!

Well Maldini said a similar thing, he said If I have to make a tackle I have already made a mistake.

Love the kits you've got in there, simple but some of my favourites. Best ones don't need changing

That 94 European Cup final where they destroyed Barcelona 4-0..... They were "finished" apparently, and Baresi and Costscurta out injured.

Dished out an absolute hammering. Savecevic in that game!

He was a phenomenal player in his prime.
I remember us going to Chelsea in the 90s and we were giving them a right bashing. He was player manger and came on at half time played at sweeper and ran the game. We lost the game but he was a pleasure to watch. Just awesome.

Yeah, James Richardson and Peter Brackley I really liked as presenters / journalists as well. James used to read out the sports papers sat outside a cafe but I believe the commentary was all provided remotely from London.

The Quickly Kevin episode on James Richardson is well worth a listen. Spliff optional - James Richardson / Football Italia - S03 E01

Outstanding player. Also sky was the limit for Van Basten before his injuries.
That AC team was up there with best club side ever. Went against the norm for dull Italian League football. Was a purple period when C4 had live Seria A.

There's a golazzo podcast and the most recent episode was 'tre tulipani', all about Gullit, Rijkard and Van Basten. The series in general is well worth a listen, covers loads of stuff from the 80s, 90s and 2000s
