Should be the first signing we make if we go up. Brighton surely have to sell or make him number 1 he’s too good to sit on the bench, can see him being Pickfords successor for England.

I was against the permanent signing when it was rumoured we bid £5m as I am a massive Dovin fan but he’s likely to cost 4x that now.

I very much doubt they'd demand £20m. There's no justification for that whatsoever and he's likely to want to leave.

Harsh on Dovin but if he's available, you'd surely sign Rushworth. There isn't actually that much difference between the pair in relation to shot stopping, Rushworth's numbers are better but overall Dovin played in a team performing at a lower level compared to this year...

GK is one of those positions that's harsh, Rushworth getting injured last year meant he was supplanted by Pandur at Hull even though he's clearly a quality Championship GK.

There is room to keep both keepers really, especially if we are promoted

Young, English and very good. Trafford has just gone for £30m. I’m sure Ipswich spent over £10m on Muric when they went up and he was useless.

Trafford isn't a great comparison really - and he went for £27m + add-ons but yeah. He's a regular English U21 international and now England squad player with prior experience in playing PL football, is younger and he was wanted by several PL clubs.

No, Ipswich spent £8m on Muric according to the Athletic, plus minor add-ons. I think a large part of that fee being inflated was because Man City had a fairly sizeable sell-on clause inserted in his contract.

Goalkeepers traditionally don't go for much. If you look at some of the ones in the PL. Easily over half of those starting would've cost less than the apparent £20m price tag on Rushworth's head put forward by the OP.

No one is paying that for a player which hasn't played a minute of PL football, or top flight football in Europe.

And on the topic of English goalkeepers. Even Dean Henderson didn't go for £20m. His fee was £15m + £5m add ons.

id assume doug had pencilled in a fee as part of the loan deal. so if were lucky we'd get him at a fraction of what hes now worth

Im not convinced we have. I know a Brighton fan who is convinced they won't sell him regardless of the fee. This loan was done because Dovin was injured and we only had the chuckle brothers

Didn’t we have £10m turned down?

We’ll see, I don’t think £20m for a 24 year old English goalkeeper as good as Rushworth is ridiculous.

Well with respect, I've just highlighted why it is a bit ridiculous. At this stage of his career he just isn't worth anywhere near that.

Just at a quick glance, Pope, Henderson, Roefs, Perri, Sa, Sels, Lammens, Kelleher, Leno, Dubravka all were bought for around £15m or less by their respective clubs. Many of those in that list were below £10m.

If Brighton wanted £20m the club would look elsewhere, and rightly so.

I think he is doing ok in a winning team and has pulled off a number of good saves but he is not premier class yet. If Dovin can get back to fitness he will be number 2 choice but we would need someone with more experience. If, we get promoted we could easily go on a losing streak and would he cope? I don't think so.

His contract with Brighton is up next year is it not? There is talk that they have a one year option, but I fail to see how they can ask stupid money under such circumstances
