England consider Championship star for call-up

Coventry City goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is on England’s radar after his record-breaking start to the season.

Rushworth recently clocked 613 minutes without conceding, the longest such run in the history of the Sky Blues.

talkSPORT understands England scouts are paying close attention to the Brighton loanee’s form.

Rushworth almost joined Rangers in the summer but Brighton blocked the deal with sources close to the player suggesting that was down to owner Tony Bloom’s interest in Hearts

With the Gers struggling and Coventry flying high at the top of the Championship and making history under Frank Lampard, that turn of events has worked in his favour.

It is from Talksport so pinch of salt needed but loan players getting positive rumours like this is a double edged sword.

If we want to retain any hope of getting him permanently (or possibly even not being recalled in Jan) we need this to be bullshit

The only reason Brighton didn’t sell him for £5.5 million is because they knew that after one good season in the championship, he would be worth at least double.

We’ve rinsed them once and they’re not letting it happen again.

Would think Antti Niemi would get in ahead of Rushworth to be fair.

Lampard was never going to Rangers, that ship had long since sailed.

We’ve seen with Gerrard, Rodgers and Ange that you can dominate the Scottish league, win titles but as soon as you come to the Prem, 1 bad job and your reputation plummets.

If Lampard wins the league with us (or just promotion), he gets more credit in the bank. We could get relegated next season and still be a hero (like McKenna) to have another go at the Prem. If he kept us up, he’d have a genuine interest at a top half Prem team.

Nick Pope now ruled out of the England duty due to injury, could Rushworth be called up as a replacement?

Would be a great achievement if it happened.

Aren’t they likely to go back to Trafford?

Maybe. But he has played two games since September 1st and is unlikely to play many more unless Donnarumma gets injured. If I were Tuchel I’d be using this as an opportunity to take a look at Rushworth - a player who is actually getting game time and not just sitting on his arse fulfilling the Scott Carson role at Man City.

Brighton have already turned down a bid from us and they would only agree to a loan.

Did anyone seriously think Rushworth was getting in over Trafford?

It won’t take him long to become England number 1 imo. Best young keeper I’ve seen for as long as I can remember. Needs to improve his kicking slightly and he’ll be the full package.

How refreshing is it to see a keeper actually catch it so regularly.
