He signed 8 players after December, including paying a fee for Jodi Jones, and loaned 4. We didn't need that many to take us up and the argument he wasn't backed clearly isn't true. If he had no budget why would he waste that on bringing in Lorentzon and Rose from abroad?

I was thinking more like selling Madison at the eleventh hour ensuring that there was no money available to suitably replace Reda/Turner meaning we had to choose from the shite in hope more than expectation.

Stranger yet that we didn't maximise on sales in January this season with 3 reported offers on players.

Tony there are many things that need explanation.
The one perplexing me was that £600 K. shortfall on the gate money last January based on the 11k attendance, which ultimately needed to be 14k.
£2.3M budget, has that been shown in this year's books, (I think so).
I thought possibly that TM had exceeded the limit and spent £2.9M, but no meaning his budget was realistically £1.7M the same as is likely this year's on rising price but reduced attendance.
Playing budget reduced from £2.5M under Pressley to what I've just speculated over three seasons, a third over three seasons.
That's heavy cutting.
Bonus structure being part of that, was that implemented pre season or during?

And that's probably just for starters.

After 10 years of saying we've learned from our mistakes at some point it has to be reasonable to assume that it's been deliberate.

I thought people should have been pleased about that. After all it would have been Meltdown Central had any of them been sold.

Selling Maddison was irrelevant as we had him back on loan anyway... Why not replace reda with the money he wasted on Jones? He also brought in Stephens and Cargill who are now premiership centre halves so he did replace them adequately anyway

They would ask for mutual aid from other forces. Granted, that would cost but there are ways and means, particularly as you have to deal with just one commissioner rather than a whole police authority....might even do Warks a favour if they apply to the home office and are granted additional funds.

Only curious as to when they are sold torch not that they won't be.
Willis Stephenson both off.
Wolves, Brentford.

Is that the Madison we kept on loan who did fuck all? Mowbray messed up recruitment last January and in the summer.

I don't understand the clamour to relieve Mowbray of blame. The players he brought in were terrible, from last January onwards with one or two exceptions. He never saw fit to bring in a decent keeper and instead of prioritising getting the recruitment/scouting right he got Ryton and the team bus painted. Yes the owners take flack, but he layed the foundations for failure this season.

Jones was a loan initially. No transfer was paid until the season ended. I would think that means that Jones came out of this seasons budget not last.

Mowbray had limited choices last January. Not helped by selling Madison at the eleventh hour. Like I said in my OP, we needed to replace Reda/Turner not Madison. That makes retaining Madison irrelevant.

As for the summer recruitment MR has them playing OK, certainly not looking like relegation fodder. More inline with the budget. The failing of this squad (in comparison to the budget) was starting the season with a manager who had clearly given up, then putting them under the management of the Ryton housing development director and then under the square peg in a round hole known as Russell Slade. The appointment of MR or a manager of that mold who would have been a far more linier replacement for a squad put together by Mowbray is what finished us. You look at the budget, you look at the squad and then look at the form under a motivated manager who plays football in the manor the squad was assembled to play and I struggle to see how anyone can say that the summer recruitment was messed up. Had MR replaced TM from the start I dare say our final league position probably would have flattered our budget and we wouldn't have wasted the January transfer window. It's far too easy to say that the summer recruitment was messed up, what was messed up was replacing Mowbray. That's what relegated us.

We haven't scored more than 2 league goals in a game this season and have conceded some of the softest goals I've ever seen us concede. This is because of a lack of a decent gk and no goalscorer. That to me is recruitment. It has to be said we also didn't sort that out in January. It's been a fucking shambles all told to be fair.

I'm not saying its great. Just pointing out that under MR's it's far better. Robins also never had the opportunity to work with Sordel, he also didn't have the opportunity to tweak the squad in the January transfer window. If we'd recruited MR earlier, retained Sordel and had MR recruiting in January even one or two more Robin type players I dare say we would have finished the season in a league position with our budget. But then again TF did say we had a lower league budget. We might have finished in line with our budget anyway for all we know. That then becomes a budget issue not a recruitment issue.

Ryton housing development director? Ha, you never give up do you. TM was a fool. He had four months in the summer to recruit properly and he messed it up. Got rid of players on frees before getting adequate replacements. Holding out for players who went elsewhere.

You're right, of course, Venus should never have taken the job on, but TM still takes a fair whack of blame for me. He didn't even have the guts to get us out of the mess. I guess he'll do the same thing at Blackburn.

Got rid of players for free? You mean there contracts had run out and we couldn't compete on wages to retain them because of budget constraints more like.

Our budget this season was shit. That was obvious even in the summer, I tried pointing it out at the time and took flack for it from all quarters with posters insisting that we had a top half, top eight or top six budget. TF eventually saying we had a lower to mid table budget when he came out of the woodwork, whatever that's supposed to mean. And before you inevitably come back with the TF only tells the truth when it suits line, I'm still sceptical even though it backs up what I was saying from the start of the season. I wouldn't be at all if it turned out that comment was an exaggeration of the truth and it turns out we actually have a bottom four budget to bottom quarter budget so no he isn't telling the truth when suits. I still don't automatically believe him.

Who knows what TM will do at Blackburn. They've made a fight of it under him at least and I don't think he's contracted past the end of the season is he?

Besides, I thought you said he was a premier league quality manager and it was a real coup for SISU getting him here? Or did you just say that because I said he wasn't and it wasn't?

With respect torch we only see the sharp end.
We have no idea how last summer went behind the scenes, the predicted budget the real budget.
The timing of monetary release to build the squad.
Seems the seed money was not forthcoming last summer as we were reliant on an overdraft and two interest bearing loans.
Yes TM seemingly became demotivated, could be the owner moving away from initial assurances IDK?
Was he a loser or honourable to walk.
What motivated Fisher to allow the inertia unfolding in front of him?

It's unbelievable the amount of people expecting a top six or eight finish from Robins. Inevitably it will be the same ones putting him on the pedestal pushing him off as happened with Mowbray.

How do you know what our budget was? It was shit then? Is that why Mowbray told us he couldn't recruit because everyone was on holiday or because everyone was waiting for the Euros to end? Is that why he got rid of Philips and Martin before getting any replacements? Is that why he baled out when we were bottom of the table after ten games with no wins? We'll fight til the game is won. Well, Mowbray won't.

When Robins graciously said the Checkatrade Trophy win was also down to Mowbray, Slade and Venus we can safely say that the reason we have been relegated is down to those three as well. The recruitment so right the season before and so wrong this season.

I'm not expecting anything like that to be honest. I will be there to cheer them on and I hope to be pleasantly surprised by Robins' own Coventry team rather than the inherited ragbag he played with this year.

Well you better ask Tony about the budget he knows what it was, it was shit apparently. To be honest, I've never gone with the "it's all about the numbers" argument when it comes to arguing, sorry discussing the budget. How it is spent is more important than how much there is as the Rotherham/Huddersfield situation proves; "We have the same budget as Huddersfield but when you see how they've spent that budget they've probably got more value for money than Rotherham. And credit to them."

I trust Robins to spend his budget wisely.
