Asante and torp play we win that, simple, you can see what we’re missing, we’ve stopped pressing teams, Asante was setting the press from the front, teams have got too much time against us, they just play through us, there’s gaps everywhere

It’s the big difference. Teams have been trying to catch our high line for ages, but it’s become gradually more difficult to break teams down as we progress the ball more slowly.

Thought he was ok today. Another one clearly playing while injured but some fans seem incapable of recognising that. He’ll be back to his best soon

This…and the shift in tempo corresponds to Rudoni’s reintroduction to the team.

Our early season form was due to incisive, one-touch passing and pace. We’d swarm the opposition, and the bombardment created gaps and goals. It was almost impossible to defend against.

Now we’re slowing the play and trying to pass it through the lines. Teams counter that easily with a low block.

Basically it’s regressed back to a lot of what we saw last season.

I said in the match thread that I think there’s something in him having a shoulder issue.

There was a rumour he needed an op and it was do it immediately and he’d miss most of the season or manage it and have the op towards the summer.

I think that seems to ring true and we’ve risked it to have him available now because we don’t have a big enough squad to miss our only number 10.

Problem is he’s now playing completely within himself as he doesn’t want to aggravate it more. People can say that it’s got nothing to do with him playing the ball out under no pressure but when a football isn’t fully committed then they end up playing inside themselves.

The irony is, we’re normally useless before Christmas and unbeatable thereafter - we seem to have switched the form seasons around this year!!

Yes a couple of decent signings and players fit again, we're back on track.
I have faith in FL and his team. They have some time to sort things out now

Disagree..i thought we win that game 8 times out of 10 if replayed again.

Thought we controlled the game start to finish.

Look at our xg..and look at theirs..they had 3 shots 3 goals. Usually they need about 30 shots to score 3.

Yes our defending wasnt great some individual mistakes.

We scored 2 good goals....and missed a couple of sitters.

Kitching header ! And simms side foot. As well as other decent chances. Just didnt fall for us.

Also we have had a clear assaukt on EMC in the box. So we have created more than enough! To win this game 4-1 or 4-2.

Look we are never going to recapture the form of first 18/19 games. Otherwise we would be the greatest team to be promoted..aint happening.

Ive been saying for a while hes the current root of the attacking issues, and we've been a shadow of the side going forward since his return

The stats back this up

Without him we have a 79% win rate

With him, 33%

Few too many players assume starting places. Jack really hasn’t proven his place. Feel Frank has told him he’s an automatic, but think he should try to earn it back.

I love Rudoni but he is slowing down the play too much atm.

Watching him play he is always asking for the ball which is great but I feel it takes a lot out of fluidity in approach and we look more like last season (possession for the sake of possession). Other concern is he doubles on the wing but then never comes back to the centre meaning we have no threat in the ten.

I miss watching us adapt how we would attack teams depending on what they were doing. Personally think Rudonis best games since coming back have been on the wing and as such, would be tempted to start BTA/Esse in the ten and look at Rudoni on the wing.

Id personally be looking at Rudoni on the bench. He hasnt warranted a start in my opinion.

I’d agree that he needs to be dropped. Offering so little at the moment. Starting to think back to last season and wondering if the set piece assists and goals were masking how ineffective he is with the ball at his feet in open play.

He needs dropping, I've been saying that for quite a few games, slows down play too much, wants too many touches, drifts out wide and often leaves us light in the middle area of the pitch, if his shoulder isn't right and it's affecting him, then get his surgery done and sorted and get him fit and raring to go for next season.

The main reason for this is the fact the lads are knackered, just happens to coincide with his return.

I find it funny that people genuinely think he's become a bad player rather than it probably being something like a lingering injury or getting back up to speed.

Lampard will be playing him because he thinks he can get back in the groove. It's not some tactical naivity where his former teachers pet has now decided he wants to play the game differently etc

The issue is, people say he's getting back to speed and probably will until next December.

The problem is, if he has the op in the summer, he will be playing catch up for a large chunk of next season.

Really wish he'd bit the bullet and got it done if that is the issue.

He’s trying too hard, he’s not doing what made him so good last season, he’s more focussed on create create create give me the ball I’ll do it, but what made him good last season was his ability to get out of a tight situation with quick feet or incissive passing, also quick 1-2s and running into the box getting on the end of crosses.
He’s overplaying it too much and isnt available as the right option often being in the way of MvE + Saka or in the way of EMC + Dasilva. He takes up a position where he blocks Torp or Grimes who can recieve a pass and switch up the play.

The reason we did so well with BTA was his ability to stay narrow and only come wide when required supporting his CF not isolating him

Correlation ≠ causation, there are other big contributory factors. I think Rudoni return is coincidence

Soon as we win start winning game people will stop moaning about every little thing

I have no doubt if they watched Messi but were told his team lost they would say he's a burden or some shit

Agree. I don’t think we magically battered every 4 or 5 to nil just because BTA is playing rather than Sakamoto/Rudoni/EMC. As good as he’s been, it’s like BTA has been the glue that holds it all together.

The schedule has got harder and there’s an element of fatigue setting in.

The FA cup will hopefully be a mini-reset going into Leicester.

Was telling that he was brought off and Esse was left on in the 10 yesterday.

Think we may see Esse feature there fairly often with Rudi dropping to the bench.

I didn’t like Esse at AM tbh, thought he looked stronger at RW where he had more space.

I’d like to see us play 4-4-2 when chasing games more and BTA coming back will be handy because he’s by far our best striker when it comes to defending from the front.

Not really. Lampard said afterwards that he wanted to protect Rudoni.
