Maybe too early to speculate if we’re getting some overdue rub of the green, but I’m feeling better after 1 controversial penalty in our favor, 1 controversial goal disallowed in our favor, 1 overdue clean sheet and 2 goals from “step over king” EMC who was scoreless up to FL’s appointment.

Hmm we deserved what we got today. And tbh, don’t actually think we’ve been ‘unlucky’ at many points this season. Just been shite.

One of the things I’m liking about Lampard is he seems to be cutting out that mentality where we feel sorry for ourselves because we are in a ‘false position’. No…we are where we are, work harder and get on with it - long may it continue.

We were the better team, but both of those were strong penalty shouts, and VAR awards both. Its about time we had a bit of luck.

“Work harder” is definitely something needs to be drummed into these players heads as too many are playing below the levels we are accustomed to see them play at. Cutting out mistakes is another thing that needs to be instilled. My heart skips a beat whenever we try to thread a pass between 2 opposing players in our defensive third.

I thought we thoroughly deserved it. Played like men with a plan for once. First game I've enjoyed I'm a long long time.

Nah didn't watch the first 30 mins but thought we were the better team today and deserved the win.

How EMC didn't score 2 is beyond me, that first chance looked easier to score. Not blaming him, just one of those.

vs Cardiff and Milwall we've created 4.06 xG to our opponents 1.12, we're doing well.

Rub of the green. Maybe. I thought we earned that by and large. Had bits of luck but also hit the post. We just looked fresher ideas wise. And possibly in terms of belief.

Get ready for a contrary set of observations. I don't believe in the myth that luck evens out over a season or that ref decisions even out either.
As much as I am a Robins fan, I thought the stars had aligned for him at the start of this season when we played Stoke away with half their team out and no recognised striker. Not many refs would have given out two yellow cards at Middlesborough. Preston had loads of players out. And overall we were poor losing two of those matches when we should have done better.
Then with Derby the reverse happened, with an absolute fluke second goal. Robins didn't take advantage of some good fortune given to him, but he was really unlucky as well. Bristol's goal should have been disallowed.
Lampard has now played Cardiff and Millwall with loads of players out for each team. Lampard's been lucky with the pen against Cardiff and the Millwall "goal" that was chalked off. Milwall had their two centre halves out and it showed in the second half. Unlucky with Haji's injury.
As Napoleon said about his generals "Is he lucky?"

Robins never struck me as a very lucky guy. Came within a penalty kick of both the Prem and FA Cup final. Everything he achieved was through hard work, blood sweat and tears. However, the poor play and results of the team and ruthlessness of DK did him in. Don’t they say sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. I’ll take whatever good luck comes out way.

Notts County goal wrongly disallowed then biamou scores a 3rd that's miles offside? Also, it was never a pen in the first leg. Yeah, he got a bit of luck.

Apart from the Notts C semi-final you mean? They had a legitimate goal ruled out and at least one of ours was offside.

That Jonathan Forte offside was one of the most important offside calls in the clubs history I think.
One of my favourite games of all time but it's really hard to say how it's plays out if it goes 2-2.

They were in the ascendancy and would have gone on to win, IMO. I dread to think where we’d be now if we hadn’t gone up. Agree, it’s still my best game overall, the atmosphere afterwards was something else.

That doesn't make him a lucky manager.
That means he had a couple of decisions go his way.
He had plenty That didn't.

Fair point. I was going by recent memory, but agree we rode our luck in that semi-final and that really started our rise up the leagues.

Most teams play a high press and Millwall certainly did. Think we dealt with it very well especially as our movement (as a team) seems to be a focus from the new coaching set up. Those passes look risky, but less so with fluid movement (difficult to predict pass intention). Previously to LF though, that movement wasn't there making those passes a massive risk with us forcing predicatable passes whilst under pressure. As much as I respect MR, it's one of the issues he didn't address and once we got found out, all teams knew to press our backline.

Tbh, I don't think it is that bad of a take

All it would have taken is results not to go our way on the final day or a couple of 50/50 decisions over the course of the play offs to go another way and we wouldn't have got promoted that season

But as others have mentioned he had to completely rebuild the playing side of the club with fuck all budget to work with and any side needs a bit of luck to go up so it was still a job very well done

I'm the first leg of that Notts County semi final game we were giving a pen when their defender made a perfectly good tackle on Shipley. As mentioned the 2 nd leg they had a perfectly good goal disallowed for off side ( he wasn't offside ) we had two goals given that we're offside. Just watched Ref Watch ,there conclusion Collins was not fouled for the Millwall goal that was ruled out early on.

I have come back to this one, because the downplaying of Robins' achievement in getting us out of League 2 I find really irritating.

Compare the two teams that went to Wembley in successive years.
Only 3 carried forward if I remember rightly, Stokes, Willis and Burge
Shipley and Bayliss came up from youth
Kelly, Doyle, Biamiou, Grimmer, Hyam and McNulty were brought in for pennies
During the season three new players were deemed not up to it and not featured - Vincenti McDonald and Davies
He lost his best player just before Christmas - Jodi Jones

Yes it got a bit wobbly after Christmas when we drifted well out of the play offs, but I remember a tough draw at Newport on a disgusting January day when Biamou got a late equalizer, because I thought at the time 'We've got this now, they can get in the play offs'. If you remember the top 3 places were spoken for quite early in the season.

McNulty's goal at Notts County was one of the great goals of the Robins era - well above L2 standard

Pretty much agree on all of that except for Davies not being deemed up to it, as he would have played in the play off final but for suspension.

There's also a bit of revisionism here in respect of the 2nd leg of the Notts game by some posters. While I agree there were a couple of ref decisions which went our way and made the job easier, the pattern of the match was still very much in our favour and we were the only team that realistically ever looked like winning that game.

They had their tails up for a while, as any team getting a goal back at home would have done- but we outclassed them. More shots, more shots on target, more corners, more possession. All they had was muscle and directness and a bit of momentum after their first which we soon snuffed out, we were clearly much the better team. Even if it had gone to 2-2, we were the better team that night by some distance.

But it’s the SBT way to paint as bleak a picture as possible about everything, rewrite history as much as possible to downplay things, and generally to be as negative as humanly possible.
