The Rolling Stones stormed to number one in the UK album charts this week.

Exile On Main Street landed in first place for the second time in 38 years, with the re-release of the legendary rock band's 1972 album pipping Faithless's respective new entry.

The Dance, the electronica band's sixth studio album, settled for second place in front of Plan B's The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, which finished at number three.

Meanwhile, German cover group The Baseballs debuted in fifth position with album Strike, ahead of Keane at number six. Night Train slipped five places from its number one last week.

Alicia Keys re-entered the top ten with The Element Of Freedom, which topped the charts for two weeks in February. However, Keys could not overcome new entry LCD Soundsystem, who took seventh spot with This Is Happening.

While the Black Eyed Peas moved down to 11, Florence and the Machine and AC/DC held on to their top ten positions at ninth and tenth respectively.

Elsewhere, Lady GaGa plummeted 11 places to number 14 with her Remix album, and The National saw an even more significant drop, down to 32 from last week's fifth spot.

There was also bad news for Foals, who moved out of the Top 40 completely, while Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree by Diana Vickers slid down 17 places to 24.

The top ten albums in full:
1. (-) Rolling Stones: 'Exile On Main Street'
2. (-) Faithless: 'The Dance'
3. (2) Plan B: 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks'
4. (-) The Baseballs: 'Strike'
5. (4) Lady GaGa: 'The Fame Monster'
6. (1) Keane: 'Night Train'
7. (-) LCD Soundsystem: 'This Is Happening'
8. (21) Alicia Keys: 'The Element Of Freedom'
9. (6) AC/DC: 'Iron Man 2'
10. (9) Florence and the Machine: 'Lungs'
