it almost seems like King is getting into things he doesn't understand just because he's the owner, and Robins is a footy man through and through.

I think we will look back at this thread and laugh and poke fun at it… like we did last year and the year before that!!!

In the last week this forum went from:
"KP is crap"
Cov sells KP
"NOOOO now we got no creativity"

So not hard to predict:
"Robins is out of ideas"
Robins leaves or is canned
"NOOOO he's been our best manager ever"

I don't think anyone is calling for Robins to be sacked now. There is concern over parts of the team where there appear to be gaps. We also seem to have prioritised forwards over other areas of the team. Some users have suggested it isn't for want of trying. There is also concern over the team style which feels a little low on energy and passion at times. We struggle to defend set pieces and pull everyone behind the ball leaving no escape outlet. We don't look like we are going to score from set pieces atvthe other end despite some reasonable service. We appear to be trying to shoe horn all the attacking players into the 90 mins which when done well such as Ipswich last season works well but for us just looks disjointed. People have rightly raised concerns does that mean Robins out - well not at the moment. However if things continue as they have started this season then the clamour will grow.
I think we are all hoping things improve and aren't doom and gloom and therefore this thread won't age well but after a good pre season I think at the moment disappointment and concerns over what is ahead reign.

Just been talking about Robins in general with a couple of mates a moment ago

I have a nagging gut feeling that I can't shake, that at some point this season, Mark Robins goes

Whether King pushes him, or Robins decides he's taken us as far as he can I don't know

Just reckon this is the last season of him

I can't give any rhyme or reason why outside of gut feeling but yea
"Robins has taken us as far as he can" or "Robins might walk" gets said at least once a season (Usually before Xmas)

2017/18 - When we went through that sticky patch and won 1 in 6 in League 2

2018/19 - When we went 7 winless just before Xmas and when the Wasps fiasco started towards the back end of the season

2019/20 - When we kicked off the season in another City and when Sunderland came in for him

2020/21 - When we were stuck in and around the bottom 3 and looked in real danger of going back down

2021/22 - Granted, was our only season where we seemed to veer away from at least one crisis and things were pretty stress free

2022/23 - When we flogged Hyam and couldn't play a home game for over a month into the new season

2023/24 - When we had a pretty poor start

The squad whatever people want to say is not bad, it will improve and compared to what MR has put up with in the past the current situation we find ourselves in is absolutely nothing

If he wanted to walk he'd have done it ages ago and I don't think King is stupid enough to have a knee jerk reaction and pull the trigger after a few dodgy games at the start of the season

If we had won on Saturday the thought of MR leaving would have been scoffed at... that is how reactionary it is

It doesn't have to yet

And as a self proclaimed non-football man I worry about King's suitability to appoint a good successor

Speaking as somebody who was there on Saturday, at FGR at home in 2017, at Yeovil at home in 2018, and Preston at home last season I can tell you respectfully that you are talking utter bollocks.

Had we spent £45m on any of those squads?

I agree with you @Saddlebrains, I feel like this could be his last season with us and I’m not sure why, just feels that way. I do wonder who’s calling the shots backstage tbh, we’ve suddenly got a load new coaches in and AV obviously left under mysterious circumstances, don’t feel like Robins would have chosen for that to happen unless AV pushed for it himself maybe?

Sometimes you can only take a team so far though, Robins may have just run out of patience or ideas with how to set up the squad correctly. I wouldn’t blame him for walking tbh, there’s been a lot of change and a lot of pressure put on him all of a sudden, it’s been 7/8 years now, he knows he would walk into almost any championship job he likes so I doubt he feels like he has to stay at Coventry.

I do wonder if having a new manager wouldn’t be the worst thing ever though. Look at Brighton, a lot of people said that Potter leaving would be awful, then De Zerbi came in and sorted things out, then the same when De Zerbi left, now everyone is saying how brilliant Hurzeler is. If King recruits well then I’m sure we’ll do fine under a new style of football, maybe that’s exactly what we need to get to the prem, who knows

(Apologies for it being a bit parklifey )

This was always going to be a watershed season for Robins given the money spent so far and the fact that overall the squad should've had sufficient time to settle by now.

Managers have left / been let go for a lot less. The fanbase should realise by now that King isn't at all sentimental or nostalgic as in his mind there's no place for such emotive behaviour if you're going to run a successful business.

If Robins isn't delivering the results on the pitch which King expects and has publicly outlined, then unfortunately he'll more than likely be given his marching orders, or leave on his own accord.

That being said we're early into the season and talk of Robins going is incredibly premature as I'd imagine he'll turn things around. He has done in the past and on paper I genuinely believe we have a good squad, just certain things need to click.

But, to circle back to @Saddlebrains point, fans do need to live in the real world, as it should be pretty clear by us all watching football week in week out for years / decades that prior successes will only keep a manager in a job for so long.

The fact of the matter is that same principle will apply to Robins if this season doesn't deliver on King's expectations.

It's all relative. Two of those games were in League 2 against League 2 sides.

We play countless times each season as poorly as we did Saturday but because we scraped a win or a draw nobody talks about it as much. Yes, second half was terrible but Norwich scored with their only shot on target, which was deflected. It's the nature of football.

Nothing to do with the result. I honestly can’t remember such a gutless performance at home under Robins. I’m not sure pointing to the lowest point of the club in 70 odd years as a comparator is much of a defence tbh.

I think this it really. It's not the results that are necessarily the concern for me as the first five games of the season can always be a bit erratic results-wise, it's the level of performances against what are really midtable teams.

As stated though, hopefully Norwich was a bit of a wake up call and things will turn around.

I think now looking back, I think the Norwich game encapsulated the start we had last season. Probably should have been ahead at half time but ultimately lost.

I still think we need to create more. And xG of a bit over 1 per game isn't going to get us anywhere ultimately.

I could name you three from the two previous seasons that were miles worse straight off the bat

Last season - PNE, QPR and Albion

Play Off Final season - Wrexham, Stoke and Preston again

That Wrexham game was horrendous. Nothing could be as bad as that, people are being dramatic about the Norwich game.

I rarely leave games early but I was out of there after they scored their 4th.

More about the changes to the coaching set up and the departure of Viveash for me.
I feel it might not be city getting rid of Robins but Robins calling it a day at City.
Of course, he could be behind those changes or at least fully on board with them, but I don't think, as a support, we can be sure either way.

Negativity and pessimism on this board is at an all time high.

It’s boring and depressing to read.

International breaks are shite as it is, never mind off the back of a bad performance and a perceived bad transfer window.

Sign Matty James, play 4-3-3, win at Watford and we’ll all be happy again.

There was some real naïveté about Hamer’s transfer intentions. Would we have got promoted by holding onto him for the season though? Unlikely.

It’s an opinion anyway, no need to get upset about it. Clown

My concern is the league form since Wolves in the Cup, so ignoring the wins against Bristol City and Oxford in the League Cup this year, our league results since Wolves are:
P 13, W 3, D 2, L8 F15 A21 so averaging less than a point a match, and conceding about 1.5 goals for every goal we score, it is worrying form.
Performances that are hardly energised something just feels wrong, but lets see what happens after the international break.

But why tag on last seasons results?
They have no bearing on this season.
We had a massive distraction in the form of the semi final.
I'd say the same if we'd won our last 6 and people were using that as a stat.
Though saying that, I still think our performances are worrying.

The contexts were v different and our run in was a difficult one.

Then there’s factors like the FA Cup, general fatigue and we had nothing to play for after Hull at home, 2 days after said semi final.

They’re unrelated.
