MARK Robins is hopeful of drafting in new players to freshen up his Coventry City squad before the emergency loan window closes next week.

But the manager revealed that it will all depend on whether he can send a couple the other way by entering into swap deals.

“There are players out there and some that will want to come, and as we get nearer to that window we might get some business done,” said the Sky Blues boss who has until a week tomorrow to wheel and deal.

“But it’s a question of whether we can work it because we have got a number of players here who need to play so we have to see if we can move one or two out and bring one or two in.

“We’ll see if we can do something with one or two that need games, if I can maybe look to do some swaps. If someone can get games somewhere else it might just freshen things up, give them a change of environment and scenery, and it might do one or two a world of good.

“That’s something I may pursue but there has got to be an agreement and consensus from them to do that. I am not necessarily confident but I will do if I can."

City already have six temporary signings, Callum Ball and Reece Brown on season-long arrangements and James Bailey, Jamie Reckord, David McGoldrick and Conor Henderson on emergency loans which are due to expire at the end of December/early January.

They have had varying degrees of success with the two from the most high profile clubs – Manchester United’s Brown and Arsenal’s Henderson – making the least impact so far. Centre-back Brown has been limited to development squad games of late while midfielder Henderson is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.
"You want to bring people in who make a difference," said Robins.

"Sometimes they don’t – it’s not an exact science because some can hack it and some can’t, but sometimes circumstances affect things.

"With Conor, because we had to go a different way he has not been able to play his way into the side and then he got an injury when I might have been able to feed him in against Arlesey to have another crack at it and get his confidence.

"He needs to get some confidence and minutes under his belt but he’s got to earn the right to do that. But we’re in a position where we have got to pick points up from every single game and people have got to fight and be prepared to do that, so we’re looking for reliability but also a bit of magic that might unlock the door.

"Conor is out injured at the moment. He kicked the ground and damaged his ankle so he’s in a period of treatment and will be a couple of weeks maybe, so that’s disappointing, while Reece played in the Under-21s yesterday."

He added: "We look after them and they have to earn the right to play. I don’t think Manchester United, Arsenal or anyone else think that their players have a divine right.

"They let them come on loan because they are going to get an opportunity but then it’s down to them. Part of it is the parent club seeing if they can sustain performances at a higher level because that gives them an idea. They don’t come out to rest on their laurels or come on holiday; it’s their career."

Which ones do we need to send out the other way on loan?

Would guess at Hussey, O'Donovan, Jeffers, McSheffrey? Elliot?

To be honest, I'm shocked, Waggott said that Robins said we had a promotion standard squad and only needed 1 or 2 additions....he's already brought in 4 and he wants to bring in another couple now before the transfer window?

I presume on closer inspection he'd probably like to retract that statement!

The central midfield looked piss poor Saturday and we have no pace down the flanks. Start with those areas please!

I agree with loaning out the likes of Sheffers. It'll get them match fit and give them a kick up the arse.

Clearly there is a big gap between what MR has got and what he needs in terms of the squad. Wouldnt disagree with him if he came straight out and said the squad isnt good enough at the moment.

Key to anything happening is players going the other way ........ which is dependent on players wanting to go the other way ...... which is dependent on clubs wanting those players. Anyone confident that will happen ?

This has been messed up ......... 36 or so players, with associated costs, where few actually perform to ability consistently enough, where the key areas of pace quality and leadership were simply not addressed. there is an old saying "piss poor planning = piss poor performance" ......... our plans and options this season are very poor thanks to TF, SW and AT

Think MR has his work cut out to sort the mess he has been given in the squad and the restrictions that places on the finances to do anything about it

Cant say we need any new loan signings, but we do need to loan some players out. Jeffers, Willis, Daniels, Ruffels, Phillips. Burge, guys like them. Young, up-coming players who havent been given a chance in the first team and who need first team action to progress. These kids are the future of City and they need to be given the chance to show what they can do. They're not all gonna be as lucky as Biggi and Thomas. They're not just gonna be thrust into the first team, they need to prove themselves during loan periods. We dont need any new loan singings, we just need to loan out these kids and give them a chance to develop

In all seriousness it sounds like those Barnsley fans who came on here were accurate in their assessment Re; he likes his loans.

Currently he's brought in 4,one who has'nt progerssed beyond reserve level,2 at present can't get a start .

I know I'm in a tiny minority on this but I still think certain players have /are being prematurely/ harshly judged when you consider the upheaval that has surrounded their entry into our ranks .

Confidence must have taken a battering. They're either thinking how the hell did i get here,or ,what a jolly. For me there are at least three that could still prove to have what we need .

I would have been expecting 4-5-6 to go out come Jan anyway to address finances .Bell,Mcsheff ,Rod,Jeffers ,Daniels,Woody.I suggest he tries a bit harder to accommodate what we have ,tweak systems ,look to the youth and last years graduates .

We're not going anywhere this year so lets develope a little of what we've got and work on style/ system for next year ,it is a three year plan afterall.

Fair enough Wingy.. I think a great deal of the negativity stems from the seemingly lack of commitment from many of the current squad.. I have no time for that kind of attitude.. there are some players who will develop I am sure but few.. there does need to be a clear out .. we did not sign wisely in the last 2 years

well i think we need to make some quick decisions around the likes of Henderson, if he is unfit and not going to play send him back and get another player who can!

Or in City's case, a player who is slightly less unfit.
