Isn't this the exact opposite of what King said in in the forum? He said Robins decided on Delaney and Dempster specifically after not getting a number 2 right?

Happy for Mark. Think we’re on a good path with Frank (first impressions). Wish him the best and we all move on.

King made it very clear at the forum that he didn’t rate them ( quite rudely I thought ) and Robins consistently said he chose them …. If it wasn’t King and you think Robins consistently lied then who did choose them ? And why did Robins resist changing it when King encouraged him to ?

Stoke is a graveyard for managers currently.
If he'd moved to a non-championship team, i'd want him to do well, but he's moved to a rival, so i hope he doesnt do well.
I suspect that, because it's Stoke, he'll be on his bike again inside a year.

Who were all his appointments... Why would Doug sanction the coaches Lampard brought in with him but not these ones if they were who Robins wanted all along. It does suggest it's Robins choices not the other way round

Because Lampard is Kings man and Robins wasn’t?

I think people are getting confused over language to be honest

Robin’s was manager not head coach, therefore King saying the coaching candidates wanted to be head coach I think means they wanted to be the clear number 2 ( head of coaching ) not part of a flat structure.

But he then went on to say:
“I had a meeting with Mark on September the 30th, I think it was, where I made it... Well, I shot him a memo and said to him that he has a few options. And the options were that we either keep it as it is or we look to put some hierarchy in. Or we look to, again, bring a head of first team coaching because I said he needs some balance, it seemed to me. That worked in the past, so we went out again to try to find a head of first team coaching and, again, we couldn’t get anyone through the door."
So there were two attempts to recruit and the 2nd one was clearly for the role of head of 1st team coaching so there was no ambiguity over language there.
I think King had made up his mind by then and the bust up was the cause.

I actually totally understand that decision given what happened but as far as I'm concerned in his attempts to justify it he's came out with a lot of stuff that doesn't ring true.

Surely given that Stoke City also have their own Head of Recruitment, Head of Performance, AND a Sporting Director overseeing the whole football operation, it would be impossible for Robins to appoint any of his own staff, sign any of his own players etc? That’s how it works right?

Is waiting until new year's day for the announcement related to compensation or just coincidence?

Not trying to question your ITK credentials but although this is what I thought initially I've since been told its more nuanced.
So it wasn't quite as simple as they were all Robins appointments or none of them were.

Yes but with the remainder of a 3.5 year deal in his bank account.

Here's my take on it and the best approach I think....

I hope Stoke are relegated, and then Robins goes on to be brilliant for them in League One.

Would solve so much angst.

I was told 2 weeks ago by a former director that the issue with Adi had been bubbling away for some time. He was described to me as a very talented coach but easy to fall out with, in fact he was nearly exited twice under Sísú but a combination of Robins, Boddy and the potential exit costs saved him.

When Adi and Robins fell our King wanted Adi to stay but Robins could not be persuaded to repair the relationship.

Robins wanted a flat structure and Austin and King were nervous because they felt Robins had worked best with strong proven coaches alongside him. There were discussions before and through pre season bút Robins was clear he knew the structure he wanted.

I am not saying it is true but this is what i was told.

This place (me) is going to go into meltdown if Stoke go on a run.

For my sanity, I hope he fails because I'll never be able to let it go. Adi isn't joining him, is he?

As much as it was a golden period for us, it was also for MR. It just clicked, whether either party will see anywhere near the success they had together, is unlikely.

It will be interesting to see if he's given time to develop a culture because I think that was one of the key reasons for his/our success.

I wonder if I can find a half and half scarf.

We grew together from rock bottom and the feeling of being hard done by, poor ownership and leaving our stadium only made the bond stronger. That will never be emulated unless he follows that journey again, which he won’t as I’m sure it was a nightmare at times.
Wish him all the best as he gave us some of the greatest times in recent Cov history.

We just need to win on March 8th

Without being in the know, my take is that I didn’t believe much of what king said at the forum anyway about what robins wanted in the coaching structure.
just seems weird to me that if we take what Doug said as gospel, that MR wanted four ‘flat’ coaches and no assistant or head of coaching, but now he’s got two assistants with one apparently who he wanted at Cov.
I think it was very much a structure that king wanted but on his terms (which is exactly what Lampard has got) and robins was the fall guy.

i.e. robins would have had an assistant but his choice and not one forced on him.

King gave Robins and Adi long contracts and then they fell out. That’s when King started to loose faith in MR, he had backed him until then.

Joe Edwards won a UCL with Tuchel as assistant manager and the fitness coach was at Chelsea during the Chelsea glory days from Mourinho onwards.

Two coaches that are frankly, overqualified.

Stuff I’ve been told corroborates this. I was told at Ipswich at home that AV was leaving and that ‘he was a complicated figure’ and fell out with quite a few players.

Particularly, the relationship with Ben Wilson was bad which explains why Collins went from first choice to 3rd choice when AV left and Wilson brought in from the cold.

Nevin was who Robins wanted as his Number 2

Doug said no. There's a reason Delaney and Dempster were promoted, it saved money

Also it speaks volumes Robins hasn't tried to get any of the coaching set up 'he' put in place, even though 1 of them in Boateng is currently unemployed.

It's staring people in the face and they don't want to believe it

Doug was truthful with Robins saying he can't work with Adi anymore. Doug was truthful that he tried to work it out between them.

He wasn't truthful with the bullshit about the number 2 'not coming across his desk'. It did

Also, i was told before the Preston game on October 19th Doug wanted Lampard. As we're a few others

The second Adi went and Robins was last man standing from the old regime, Doug knew he was giving him the boot and putting in who he wanted

We'd be in the top 2 now if Robins and Adi had seen that Collins and Wilson were both shite and had a laugh about it over a bottle of wine.
What could have been...

Any idea if Nevin was Robins number 2 choice in the summer in pre season or if Nevin was only put forward after the season had started cause King told him current set up wasn't working?

At what point did he want Nevin? I’m sure this info would’ve been available in the summer.

Him not going for any of the other coaches he brought in could be an admission that he got that restructure wrong. If MR could see that and the. Asked for Nevin and/or Ramsey, it could’ve been too late in the day.

After all, October 19th was well after the season started there’d already been 2-3 ‘MR out threads on here’. Both Austin and King had a pre-conceived belief that MR would be exposed without a top class coach alongside him so it’s probably MR asked too late.

I don’t buy the narrative that King wanted to rid MR because he was the last vestige of the Ancien Régime which is what you/your source is peddling. If he believed MR was the man to take us to the Prem, then he’d still be at the club. What is clear is that King’s faith in Robins was fundamentally tested by AV’s exit and the season start made his position untenable.

Reading between the lines, it seemed like the relationship between the owner and manager had broken down by the point MR may have wanted a new number 2. Specifically, that King had lost faith in MR so why go out and hire a new person if you’re pretty certain you’re going to sack the existing manager?

Personally, I wouldn’t have got rid of Robins but when DA and DK said they felt he needed a strong coach beside him, it suggested they doubted his ability to take the club forward.
