I generally hate these analytic pages on twitter. Probably ran by 14 year old Championship Manager players. I will say I was very critical of Wright's workrate on Sat (would love to see how many times he sprinted) but him and Simms were clearly under instruction not to press. Not so sure about this perfect set up against Norwich. They were very low on confidence and had lost 3 in 4 I think. We barely created anything. If we hadn't scored a fortunate late equaliser the team could have been booed off. Feels like we showed them too much respect. By comparison I'd love to see how Plymouth approached their game with Norwich a couple of weeks back.

To be fair , this proves that players are playing off instructions , it also pretty much confirms godden is also playing off instructions

It also proves that Mark robins has his head screwed on tactically

This is what I said

Yeah that's fair. I am needling those that called Haji lazy and said he won't get near team till he changes for robins.

That said i still stick with what I said too which is doing his job as told too or not he isn't as good at it (pressing)as can be and I expect he will improve in that regard over course of the seaosn. But he ain't lazy imo

All I ask is they run a little more, idc if they're told to back off or what ever they spent 3/4 of the their game jogging around and walking.

Our attack lacks movement/surprise something haji can provide with his pace if he uses it.

Pretty much confirms what I said in a previous thread about the nuances involved. But apparently I know nothing

I got absolutely laughed out of the park for using the word “nuance” on here last week. I completely agree with you though, there’s more to it than “this player is good” or “this player is shit” or “you’re wrong, I’m right”, we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors or what players are told to do in a game.
Our strikers may not be looking the best yet but they’re learning a new system with new players and it’s not like they’re not scoring either, Simms scored 2 goals only 3 games ago and Wright scored the winner only 2 games ago. It’s going to take time but I think we have 3 decent strikers who all have different strengths in a team that works well together and is managed by a class manager.

Fascinating. When you see it like that it make absolute sense - and you realise how switched on every player needs to be.
to me there’s certain things that are obvious when you’re watching it - the starting again by going back and shifting the play to create space, but the other stuff like how the strikers position themselves in their press with hindsight you see it, despite it looking frustrating at the time.

wonder what goes through robins and the players minds when half the crowd are screaming for them to charge down every player every time.

I’m pretty the manager and players at all clubs think the vast majority of fans are clueless.

If they ignored/disobeyed Robins’ instructions I doubt they’d remain at the club long.

Shared the same thing on the Wright thread. I wish I could see stuff like this in real time but honestly I can’t. As others have said, it’s obvious something was up and Wright and Simms were intentionally standing off, and I noticed a few other bits, but most of that I missed!

I said he wouldn't get near the team until he changes, (obviiously he started Saturday), but I didn't say it was through laziness, I said he's not up to speed with what's required,I stand by that and expect Godden to start v Bristol.

I also said he'll bea different player in a few months time once Robins andAdi have worked with him.

In classic SBT style this has become two sides arguing past each other. There is a complaint that even when not following the pressing plan Wright didn’t put enough effort in. For example chasing down 50:50s or getting back when we lost the ball, or making runs when he had the ball.

These two statements can be true simultaneously:

Wright stood off a little from pressing the Norwich centre backs

Wright's workrate isn't yet at the level it should be

It was Wright’s movement when we were in possession that bugged me, he stuck to the plan while Norwich had the ball which was fine by me.

I’m glad Robins has decided that Simms and Wright shouldn’t press, if only they played right on the shoulder of the defence it’d be perfect as it’d leave them free for the midfield to create chances for them past the opposition’s back line, something we haven’t seen much of yet.

I’d also be happy if we do decide to press but if we do then it has to be done as a team, something we did well for about 5 mins of that Norwich game. I think the worst of all world’s is a half-hearted press or a one-man press which we’ve seen now and again, if we press we should press in 2’s or 3’s, way more effective.

Maybe it’s a case of Robins trying things out and making his mind up what style suits us best, trying different tactics and players out in different positions which I think’s great. I think we’ll see a much better team after the break, a few new things have been tried it seems and we’ll have almost our whole squad back. I’m hopeful for at least 6 points out of the next 3 games.
