Robins: Malaga off to Nuneaton Town (1 Viewer)

DISCARDED DEFENDER SET TO BE LOANED OUT IN TIME FOR CUP CLASH

COVENTRY City centre-half Kevin Malaga is set to join Nuneaton Town on a month's loan * and if the deal goes through he will be available for Boro's FA Cup trip to Luton Town on Saturday.
The 25-year-old Frenchman signed a three-year contract when he joined the Sky Blues from Nice in the summer but although he played in the home draws against Sheffield United and Bury he has not featured in the first team since Mark Robins replaced Andy Thorn at the end of August.

He has been turning out as an overage player in the Under-21 team but Robins explained: “He needs some games against men and this gives me an opportunity to see him in that environment.

“Under-21 games don't really suit him * although I saw a little bit more of the real player at Leicester the other week * so I think it would be good for him to spend a month there and I'm happy for him to play against Luton.“

The fact that City are prepared for Malaga to be cup-tied suggests that Robins does not see any prospect of him overhauling Richard Wood, Nathan Cameron, William Edjenguele, Reece Brown and Jordan Wills for a first-team slot, particularly after Jordan Clarke proved that he can slot into the berth with a polished display at York City.

“I can't carry too many centrehalves,“ said the City boss, “Although it looks as if we've got an embarrassment of riches when you see all the names at the back of the programme the squad isn't as well balanced as it could be and a lot of them are young players.

“It needs to be at a manageable level where everybody has a chance of playing and at the moment some of them can't see the wood for the trees.

“I need to be ready to make some tweaks and adjustments and if people come in for some of our players I'd be interested in hearing what they've got in mind.“

Robins, meanwhile, is waiting to hear how many adjustments he will have to make to his line-up when the Sky Blues launch their FA Cup campaign at home to Arlesey on Saturday.

Top scorer David Mcgoldrick will definitely miss the match because Forest don't want him cup-tied but Robins has inquired whether his other loan men * James Bailey, Callum Ball, Jamie Reckord, Conor Henderson and Brown * will be ruled out by their parent clubs.

Doesn't make sense if they have no desire to play him at all.

Seems crazy doesn't it, maybe it's Liverpool syndrome, ship a striker out but then all of the others get injured so you may need to recall him.

I think this is an excellent decision from Robins. He is spoilt for choice for centre halves. He needs to get rid of some in January to strengthen other areas and by sending Malaga out for a month he will have a month before January to assess all of the defenders capabilities when they are match fit, allowing him to make an informed choice.

Feel a bit sorry for malaga tbh. Comes to a new country hoping to make a go of things and gets shoved in with the youth team.

Because he will still be available for any team come January, may make a difference if someone cant play him in the cups.

I must say that I am surprised that that Premier League club who wanted to sign him haven't come in for him yet.

They want to sell him. A club still in the cup that is after a striker would want one not cup tied.

Im happy for Malaga to go and play some games. Im sure Robbins will watch if he can or have Malaga watched and maybe he can force his way back into the frame. Feel sorry for him as he has not really had to many chances.

When we signed the edge and malaga i thought they would be shrewd signings, but i guess their not as good as 1st thought.

I personally liked Malaga, I hope he does well!

I like Malaga too. Shame he's not been given much of a chance. But I agree we have a lot of 1st team CB (including youth team lads) and even though Robin's is allowing Malaga to play in the cup for Nuneton, it does comes across that he's going to assess him and see whether he is worth keeper in the long run. We won't always have Brown and I can see us losing Wood next year if he continues to play like he has (not great but commanding and that's what some teams look for in a CB).

Only time will tell I suppose!

I think he's been harshly judged ,there probably is a communication problem as those two games we conceeded two virtually identical goals from down the right where he had Reece out side of him and he could possily got across to cover ,seemed like a serious threat from set pieces also,did plenty to suggest some assurety in the regular defending duties

It'll put off potential buyers from L1 or Championship who want him in their cup run.
