During the post match interview yesterday MR made the following comment
“We have to work hard, and I don’t think we worked hard enough. If people want to be comfortable and sit in position’s that are comfortable for them, they won’t be in the team for very long and they have to quickly realise that.

who do we think he was referring to player wise ?
my money is on either Thomas or Torp

I think he meant generally as a warning that you’re not guaranteed a spot unless you give 100% effort. Wake up cal the to the team.

I thought our midfield shape was horrible yesterday ….

Midfield 3 too deep leaving Simms isolated and the wide players nothing to hit if they had a chance to cross. None of the midfield ran past Simms because their starting position was too deep. All to easy to defend.

I doubt that was down to work rate …..

It’s a general warning to the team because the whole midfield and our wide players were too safe. In possession with their passes or dribbles and out of possession in the pressing.

We missed Sheaf’s out of possession work with his interceptions and tackling.

We are massively missing a leader.
We've never replaced Fadz in that regard.
We looked like a rudderless ship yesterday.

I'd agree with this. Simms was so isolated, certainly first half. We really did get it completely wrong

First half, agreed. Second half we were the better team and Stoke unfortunately had one good opportunity and took it. So I don’t think we got it ‘completely’ wrong.

Agreed on Simms being isolated, we made 1 or 2 direct passes to his feet in the first half. It didn’t help that the referee allowed stoke players manhandle him.

Before we got promoted to the Championship, we had a good record on Day 1 of the season. We’ve lost all 3 out of 4 opening day matches now.

They sorted it at HT with Emc and Saka playing closer to Simms. Also let mve and Bidwell push up further. Not sure why it took till ht to get that message on.

Torp needs a kick up the backside. He's probably the most gifted midfielder we have but went missing yesterday.

the reality is Ipswich who came 2nd lost 6 games all year last season.

We have already lost 1 after 1 game.

I’m sorry but without being ruthless, this year will absolutely slip away from us

Torp has gone missing whoever he plays alongside. He does tend to hide a lot. IMO he still doesn’t meet the demands of championship football.

Torp and Palmer are similar players in that they are finesse guys who play with flair and like to do the fancy things. I just want a basic, hardworking, no nonsense midfielder with some grit and determination that will win the ball when out of possession and drive the team forward.

We were far too deep first half the defence were too deep for starters, the midfielders were also far too deep meaning Simms was far too isolated - thought Simms did well considering and should not have been substituted.

We were far too safe and far too slow in possession thought Southgate had taken over as our manager tbh!

I think there are a few players Robins was directing that comment at - a lot hid behind an opposition player so they were not available for a pass rather than make a simple run to get in Space and give another option for a pass.

Torp was definitey guilty of that and Allen at times though Allen did try to move about thought his workrate was better than most ........I think even the two centre backs in Binks and Thomas were a little bit guilty of that as well though Binks overall probably my player of the match.

tbh was not massively impressed with Dovin - Stoke put in some good deliveries but he really did not look dominant or commanding certainly in comparison to Stoke's keeper anyhow.

a match to forget let's move quickly onto the next!

I find it remarkable people are having a go at Torp when Allen was poor. He's not a starter for me.

Disagree with Dovin. I liked him. Distribution was good and he made a great save when called upon.

Both were poor, but at least Torp can improve. Allen is tiny, slow and seemingly unable to do anything other than play the safest pass. Having him anchoring our midfield was a joke.

True. Allen is Allen. We know on his day Torp can win a game. Look at him at Wembley and the Everton game.

It’s a very competitive league and you have to make the most of limited opportunities that come your way. That’s why winning the ball when you’re out of possession is so important. I don’t want to ding Simms too much, but he sometimes is too indecisive and slow. There was one chance in the first half where he broke away and was 1-1 with a defender, but he drifted wide and attempted a weak shot. He needs to be more confident and should’ve moved inside and used his power and pace to beat the defender to get a shot on goal. Think Gyokeres wouks have put that one away like he did versus Wigan I believe it was.

So are we settled on Torp as the boo boy this year?

Don't think you can read too much into Robins comments. He wasn't going to come out saying that was fantastic, more of the same please

Without picking out individuals. There was no press, the defence look like they’ll concede often this season, and our flair players slow play down.

Nowhere near writing Torp off. He just needs to up the intensity. He will hurt teams given time and space but he will rarely get it

Difference between a boo boy and saying a player with clear talent needs to step up and prove his worth to the team rather than hide behind the oppo which is what he did yesterday

It is noticeable that the team is good when given space to play ie. Against Wolves, Manure, Everton. However; v PNE, Stoke, hackers, etc. we struggle. Needs sorting.
