Stewards at Sunderland today were taking coins from fans saying they were not allowed to take them in. And then pocketing the money for themselves the Robbin bastids.

Have you got proof they were pocketing it themselves as if so it needs reporting otherwise stop making crap up.
From what I saw the coins went into a bucket that was being donated to a Nominated Coventry charity namely Zoe’s place.

Asked me and I said no. I had to get my wallet out to prove it too!
Luckily they didnt check my car key pouch!!
All because some hysterical northern chimps bleated when we beat them a fee years ago.

They had 60p off me.
Left my change on the bus but I missed a couple of coins.

Saw them taking a power pack from a kid who was with his mum.

Still baffles me why they don't just put away fans in the lower bowl. It would improve what is a truly woeful atmosphere there.

I've never heard of this before. I don't think the legal terms & conditions on the ticket cover this, do they? If it's not something that's you've agreed to in the terms of purchase, then this sounds a lot like theft to me.

Someone from the club or the FSA should pick this up with Sunderland and/or the police.

Took £8 off my grandson, I had already gone through so didn’t see it. They didn’t even ask me. £8 might be nothing to you, it is to him.

Although, I did find this...

Sunderland: Away fans banned from bringing coins and vapes into ground

Sunderland ban away fans from bringing coins and vapes into the Stadium of Light after recent incidents.
www.bbc.co.uk

This seems excessive to me, and I wonder about its legality. But if it's on the terms of entry they can probably do it...

If this is a thing they do as a matter of routine then surely it should be clearly communicated to fans well before the game, or ideally at the time of purchase

That last one would seem to be key for me, that's the one that relates to football fans. There's no mention of coins there, I don't think they could refuse access on the basis of coins if that latter link is their stated policy.

We should just make up a random list of things they can't bring in like keys, socks, earrings, wallets bigger than credit card size

Sovereign rings, chest medallions, glass eyes, prosthetic limbs, trainers or shoes larger than size three, etc etc...

Clearly a threat to public safety.

That's outrageous. I'd report that to Sunderland.
Doubt you'll get it back but it might make them keep an eye on what goes on in future.

I thought this was public knowledge? They've been doing this for a few years re coins, lighters vapes etc.

Maybe the club should have communicated this better?

First word of the theft act is Dishonestly. Thats where it falls down. Its a condition of entry and plenty of messages put out before hand warning travelling fans not to bring coins etc so no chance. Despite all the warnings people still dont listen and then moan when they have to surrender a couple of quid which then goes to a local charity

Where were the warnings? It sounds as if it came as a surprise to people. Coins aren't on Sunderland's published list of prohibited items.

Should've stated any banned items on the Sunderland website or on the ticket itself, poor communication

Yes they are. A bus driver would have to accept stamps as currency.
