XG is definitely an indicator of a possible upturn or downturn in future performance as 'luck' starts to even out, although clearly there will also be other factors in play. When MR left last season our XG was an example of that, but even so by the time FL was able to turn the situation into actual points the play offs were still the best we could hope for, which is probably the case with Southampton this season too. Like us last season though it will probably take a change of manager for the tide to turn, and for it to also happen before its too late.

Yeah that's my hope that it's too late by the time some of these parachute teams get into the form we were all expecting

Boro losing has meant we keep a 2 point gap unless they come back from 3-0 down

1st Coventry LOST 28pts
------------------------------------
2rnd Middlesbrough LOST 25pts
_____________________________
Stoke WON 24pts
Ipswich WON 19 pts
Leicester LOST 17pts
Southampton LOST 12 PTS

Only 2/5 won so it could have been worse for us after our own loss. Ipswich are still a big worry. Stoke proving I was right to class them as rivals. Millwall as promised will be added if they keep this up into international break but nice to see them drop points today and Bristol city hit a mark robins speed bump at least

Southampton now 13 points behind 2nd place and close to being eliminated from contention

it could have been a worse weekend for us

Change the manager (or not even) - anything can happen. They have some good players!
Look at where we've come back from in the last few seasons!

Agreed. I think 18pts off 2nd is a reasonable cut off

Yeah Ipswich and Stoke are a problem. And Millwall have been a dark horse this season for many.

No rivals lost yet it was another good game week for us as 3 dropped points

Some of the teams making a push came unstuck like Millwall and Bristol city but it's still very open. Ipswich still seems the ones to watch but massive game for us this upcoming weekend Vs 2nd place stoke.

Blues have back to back 4-0 home wins and are slowly creeping up the table, although their away form is pretty poor. They are away at Boro on Saturday.

Ya

Will assess after international break wether to add teams to list

At the minute I'm still not seeing Millwall Preston or Charlton as teams that will stay up there in auto race but have to take them seriously if stick around a lil longer

Leicester and Saints surely out of contention for the top 2 now, it's shocked me how bad the relegated 3 have been. I think Ipswich are still just about in contention but need a run of good form pretty much now for that to remain the case, i can see it being much more closely run this season than normal which might work in their favour. Boro, Stoke and Preston seem most likely to push us at present, i just can't see the latter 2 sustaining a whole season though, even with Boro it just feels unlikely.

9 and 12pts off respectively from 2nd place. I think it's to soon to knock then out of contention just yet.

But yeah it's getting to point where they need brilliant form till end of season so their chances are lowering by the week

Might be easier to climb the league this year too, i can see teams taking points of each other more regularly and maybe a lower points total required for top 2.

Obviously i hope this is all irrelevant and we are the run away leaders, dont have to care what anyone else is doing then. All should by clear by early May anyway, not long to wait....

A couple of interesting pointers using PPG. At the current PPG, Boro in 3rd are tracking for 85 points, with every team below 6th requiring at least 2 PPG to achieve this total.

It means the likes of Birmingham and Ipswich need a serious upturn in their away form simply to achieve the 85 point mark, whereas 1.7 PPG or roughly 17 points every 10 games would get us there.

On a final note, continuation of current PPG rates would see us achieve 102 points and a gap of 13 points over 2nd and 17 points over 3rd. It’s unlikely to continue that way, but there is some margin to play with.

The goals scored is pretty formidable as well. Assuming we win half of our remaining 32 we could be easily around plus 60 if the defence holds its current form.

Automatics or not this squad needs promotion its at its peak right now. Remember it’s been together for few years and the drop off season by season can be alarming. We have players out performing their normal stats A Certain Mr Ferguson would always rebuild regardless of how successful as he knew how it can degrade after few years together….

Whether we go up or not i think this team will see significant changes going in to next season. If we don't make it then i think several key players will be prised away and if we do go up we'll need alot of incomings to put together a competitive side.

Most seasons 28 or 29 wins is enough for the autos. We need another 19 to 20 wins from the remaining 32. Still plenty of work to be done.

I Ageee….Out of Interest what’s the lowest points tally someone has won this league with?

it could be a year that this is the year that breaks it.

It seems like everyone draws in the Championship apart from us

The worst week so far in terms of rival results but really it doesn't matter much as we won our game and dealt a blow the team closest to us

Shame Leicester got a late winner but they still don't scare me and they have deduction coming yet

Southampton will pick up and still be in the hunt for playoffs at least

Boro won but it's massive to lose their manager and surely there will be some sort of drop off?

Ipswich still seems most likely team to catch us but they ain't gaining on us yet so alot of pressure on them to keep up insane form

It's going well and a nice time for international break I think

From that list, Leicester and Southampton beat the 2 worst teams in the league, and Ipswich are going to be up there in May so can have second spot.

Ya I'd just like to get rid of Boro off our tails ideally.

I'm not gonna add anyone to list as I just don't see likes of Millwall Preston hull etc staying in the auto race

A great weekend for us as 3/5 of the auto rivals drop pts. Southampton pulling themselves back into it but a long way off us

Whilst none of them are out of the race for automatics hopefully soon we can say they are out of the running for the title!

Also the flavour of month teams losing too like Millwall Preston hull etc. Bristol city may possible join the auto rivals but other than that it doesn't seem like anyone surprising is gonna come at us

Basically everything is working out right now and long may it continue!

We are in a fantastic position, but with 30 games left 10 points isn't a fail safe buffer.

One game at a time. Enjoy each game.

Assuming our goal difference remains higher than each of the teams.

For the remainder of the season teams need to make up the following ground on us.

We obviously need to be losing while teams catch up.

Table borrowed from above

Tried, but the data wouldn’t display on the post as was the original layout. IPad. Tried to create a table using sheets but only part of the data transferred over in columns/ rows….So I decided to use a screenshot.

Inept as Charlton were that first half by Southampton is a must watch. No exageration they could have had 9/10.

Southampton have left themselves a mountain to climb. Their Xg always suggested a huge turn around and underperformance.

Im actually tempted to put on Adam Armstring to be top goalscorer..think he will be top scorer in the league by about 10 goals

My predicted table.

1)Cov
2)Ipswich/Birmingham/Southampton

Almighty scramble for play offs the kind we havnt seen before.
