Given where RVNs come from you could probably say the same about him.
I'm not particularly banging the drum for Edwards but if the objective is to get promoted he's the only one with that on his recent CV and who did it on a fairly tight budget.

PSV were not a physical long ball team.

Don't know much about them but I'd imagine managing City in the Championship is a long way away from managing PSV.
Edwards is the only one who's actually achieved what we want to do.

Again, he doesn't particularly excite me but I'm probably leaning more toward a big name candidate like everyone else.

There is a good insight into RVN’s thinking on Coaches Voice, RVN episode.

If it is rvn it’s a complete punt based on his playing career and name. Surely that’s not where we want to be. King has fallen for the feelgood factor of having a big footballing name linked with his club rather than making a good football decision

Right, so just to be clear, RVN is definitely coming to us and may well be announced as soon as tomorrow, but isn't coming at all because he's waiting for a Premier League job.

Every managerial appointment is a punt.

I agree this is quite a high odds punt, but maybe that's the direction we need to go in.

Understand the point considering we wanted to be Luton for how we operated and for what they achieved.

Always remember Robins going on about how they are a year off where we wanted to be.

However while he has won promotion out of this league, I don’t think our squad or club mentality line up any further.

We now to be fair seem to have a decent budget with a look to bring flair plays in and develop them with a desire to play attacking football (lots of the new players cited how we played as a reason to come here).

Truthfully don’t know how forest green played under him but I don’t think he’s really brought players on apart from Alfie at Luton.

Seems a bad fit but admittedly he has got pedigree at promotion via the play offs. Although while that’s the goal, always thought that if we achieve our mission goal of buying low and selling high through development that promotion will happen naturally and as such we need someone to ensure that development happens which Ruud or Frank do have experience at.

I’ve mentioned this on other threads. He has the big name appeal of lampard without the failures on his record.

To be fair tho, failures are natural for most managers. More concerned with one who’s never experienced tough spells then one who’s never had to.

Not Pro RVN or Lampard, happy with either of them as both seem to be the same imo in regard to strengths and weaknesses. Think Lampard just made one bad career move.

His back story is far more suggesting of being capable. Rvn is being suggested because he scored lots of goals for Man Utd. Don’t get me wrong, ill naturally back whoever comes in.

No it’s not at all and suggests you don’t really know the backstory of either. Up until 2020 Skubala was managing University football and then had a spell at Leeds u23.

Since 2013 RVN has had various spells in the academy at PSV, Assisted Guus Hiddink at a World Cup, Managed Jong PSV for 2 seasons, managed the first team and was then brought to Man United.

RVN has way more to him than Skubala

Any managerial appointment has a massive risk element though.
I've seen appointments really heralded quickly go to shit and other appointments that are met with disdain turn out to be really succesful.

Obviously clubs have got to look at CVs and track records and meet people in person to assess candidates but it's a bit of a lottery and even if they get it right someone comes in and poaches them!
