Smith got Villa promoted and Carsley won the 21s Euros playing great football.

I'd rather have Dean Gaffney than Dean Smith though.

Smith hasn't managed well for a while .. carlsey for me is showing signs already with the England team that he would do daft things

For me a priority should be:

Plays 433 or a formation with wingers to utilise our strengths.
Attacking football
Has club experience

I’d take Smith over any of the bookies current top 5. Got plenty of experience in taking Championship sides up a level.

He only won the playoffs with villa

An extremely strong villa side

Smith would be a disaster and the sort of appointment that would alienate the fan base

The case for hiring him would be based on his time at Brentford (we all know the model lol) and Villa (getting an expensively-assembled side firing mid-season). His experience at the lower end of the PL would presumably be an asset too.

Only problem is most of his good days are about six years ago…

They were 15th when he took over and Grealish spent 3 months out that season

I think we need to get the SBT consensus right though - the anti Lampard gang said it was a pretty ordinary team that beat them in the play offs

I’ve not really considered Dean Smith which is quite unfair on his record as a manager. He’s got promotions and developed squads so wouldn’t be a bad candidate at all.

Frankly, I’m not fussed about how a manager has done at Prem level because that’s not our level. Our next goal is promotion to the Prem.

I would take him over Carsley or Lampard as well personally.

I think Lampard did ok at Derby and assembled a decent team, just happened to go up against another very strong team that should have been top 2 in reality.

It weren't that good, 3 standout players in Grealish, McGinn and Abraham but the rest is pretty ordinary;

People forget Hourihan used to be a top championship player, and some of the younger players in that Villa team like Tuanzebe were certainly highly rated

Not many players in that team who had significant PL experience at that point in time.

Indeed, I was working in Leeds at the time and one of the senior people was a Leeds fan and was incredibly arrogant about them beating Derby at home. It was a laugh going in the next day.

Yeah I enjoyed how the 2nd leg panned out very much. In general it was a very good game.

As an example, all it would take is Lampard coming in and over a period of 10 games, recording 2 wins, 4 or 5 draws and 3 or 4 losses.

Thia would be enough for us paying fans to be tipped over the edge and it would become very toxic, and I strongly believe Doug King is absolutely aware of this. So for anyone in Doug King's position, Lampard seems a very very risky apappointment.
That doesn't just apply to Lampard does it? Replacing Robins is a massive gamble by King, unless he's got a major coup up his sleeve.

Can't be right, people keep telling me Lampard managed Derby against all odds with substandard squad to battle adversity to get into the play offs.
