Just read this on Cov City Mad about the proposed train station for the Ricoh

"Coventry City Council are urging people to support the bid for government funding for Nuneaton, Coventry, Leamington and Kenilworth (NUCKLE) railway scheme which includes provision for a six carriage platform train station at Coventry City's Ricoh Arena home.

"According to the CT's Les Reid, City Councillors submitted their bid for government funding for the first phase of the project yesterday and it was a bid that was £1.9m lower than previously expected, coming in at £9.7m.
The bid which includes provision for trains every fifteen minutes on a match day at the Ricoh Arena will be decided upon by Transport Minister Phillip Hammond by the end of this year.

"The Department Of Transport is running a consultation period until October 14th and people are urged to send positive comments about the bid via email to development.pool@dft.gsi.gov.uk

I really hope that it comes off.

I must admit that i would use the train more than my car if the choice was there.

Yeah, i'm only 15 so have to rely on lifts with mates or go with someone who drives. But if there was a station i could just go whenever. Would definitely increase attendances IMO

For me with my current matchday routine I probably would not use it as often as others, however I think it will definetly improve things for a lot of people and on the whole it will improve the Arena as a whole. What would really improve the City is a metro/ tram sort of system. A tram system from the centre of town direct to the Ricoh would be brilliant! I went up to Manchester a few months back and was well impressed with their set up.

could be an interesting looking station once Villa, Millwall or West Ham have been in town.

9.7 million for a train station used maybe 30-40 times a year at most, seems very expensive and not at all cost effective, I can't see how they are going to make enough money or have the passenger usage to justify the inital outlay.

Except that's not all that's in the bid, there are improvements and new stations in Bedworth and Nuneaton as well, at least that's how I read it. Would be nice if the club brought back the Sky Blue Train for away days...

That's just not true....many would be using it every day......commuting to work.
Much needed part to any local regeneration scheme.
Essential if the area is to be revitalised.
