Awful news. So young as well.

Always seemed like he was battling a lot of demons

RIP. He was a fantastic boxer in his prime. 46 is no age at all.

Bit of a Gazza type character. Couldn't handle life after a great career. A likable guy who just wanted to be one of the lads

Can’t believe this. I thought he’d battled through his demons/struggles. Such sad news

edit - I’ve assumed the worst with my original post but could be a heart attack or something I guess. Kind of hope it is really

Amir Khan's tribute alludes to suicide, but he's never been the sharpest knife in the drawer

RIP.

Will never be a more exciting build up to a fight than him Vs Mayweather I don't think

Also heard suicide rumours but let's wait and see

Absolutely tragic. Watching him vs Mayweather and Pacquiao are some of my most vivid boxing memories. I dont think anyone had come close to his levels of popularity, a people's champ.

You forget how much time he spent in Cov as well.

He was quite regularly up Earlsdon and Scholars.

That mayweather fight will probably never be matched for build up.

I was at the Ian brown gig in Manchester the night before, leaving the gig the entire crowd was singing the Hatton song. Absolutely electric atmosphere and boxing has never cut through like that since.

RIP hitman

Very sad. Met him at the Memorial Park when Radio 1 had their big weekend there.
Seemed happy to have a chat and a picture. Very approachable

Very sadly in the same weekend, in the same area, it appears another man named Ricky has taken his life:

Body found after two-day hunt for man missing after being picked up by taxi

Rick Thornton was last seen at Werneth Low
www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk

The male suicide rate, especially for men in their 40s is significanty higher than that for women, though it's the same across the western world I believe.
