What does he actually bring to the team?, he's given away both of the penalties we've conceded, no leadership, doesn't command the defence, why does everyone stick with him in the team?, I'd take him out and put in Cameron or even Edge, because back to the Brum game who played centre halves? Weren't it edge and Malaga they both looked solid, Wood doesn't deserve a place in the starting 11 IMO

Mistake on Tuesday too with that dreadful header back to Murphy that was intercepted for a goal.

Desperately short of match practice. He will take time to adjust and get back to full fitness, but because of his large wage and our constant need to have a boo boy, he shoulders imo an unfair share of the blame. For me he is the one true leader in the team (despite not knowing it demonstrating it in recent games) and adds much needed strength and experience. I prefer him to Reece Brown. In time Brown will be much better but we can't afford to be a plae where promising youngsters learn their trade, we need them to perform and now.

Don't think that he featured much in pre season because it was hoped that he would be off loaded along with McPake hence the signing of two replacement CB's.
Combine this with the fact he was out for virtually the whole of last season then it would be true that he is short on game time.
Still doesn't excuse his schoolboy defending against Shrewsbury but the penalties awarded against him were farcical and probably wouldn't have been given by a better standard of referee (does such a beast exist??).
Still think that he is a decent player and always offers a threat at set pieces.

Where's the evidence to support that? He was good but he was very shaky and mistake prone under AB + AT!

Wasn't it Wood & Edge against Birmingham rather than Malaga? Although not being in the team is great for a player by default just now, so I'd go Malaga & Cameron.

It was Brown + Edj, I remeber it clearly because all game I remember think and saying to my Man U glory hunting mate, he's f'in sh!te, he agreed and he normally rims + bigs up Man U players (last season thought Welbeck, Hernandez and Rooney were better than RVP!)

Sorry Cloughy, to clarify I meant not much of a pre-season or featuring in competetive games over past 12 months. He has plenty of recent match practice, but is gaining that as we go.

I think he will improve if he is afforded the chance, but unfortunately like Hussey, Bell, Baker, Sheffers (and others, they are just the main recipients of abuse) it seems many have already made their mind up on him and are not prepared to give him a chance. We are such an unforgiving bunch, who chastise every mistake and hold players salaries against them as a reason for singling them out.

To be fair I think Wood's got of lightly !! Hes made at least 3 basic errors that have cost us goals/points (it could be argued that the Bury one ultimately cost Thorn his job as Bury hadnt had a sniff before then). The one saturday also changed the whole momentum/flow of the game.

He's an experienced pro FFS and I expected a hell of a lot better in this league

Wood is not pulling his weight and nor is he playing very well - personally think we should play Cameron and Malaga.
