COVENTRY City remain confident of signing Richard Wood before next week's deadline, with the Sheffield Wednesday defender apparently prepared to submit a written transfer request to force through a move to the Ricoh Arena.


Sources in the Midlands claim that Coventry have already made a preliminary enquiry about the Wakefield born centre-half, as manager Chris Coleman presses ahead with his long-standing campaign to prise him away from Hillsborough.
