Always league before cup for me.
The cup is a bit of a giggle but that’s it.
Hillo, Hiller, Hillster? B-)If you are going with your mate, Hill, can you let us all know which pub you will be in - just asking! (was going to address you as Hilly, but it just sounds daft !!)
I'd put Barrett in for Shipley as like others have said he needs a rest.Unless they are injured badly would play them, if carrying a knock or a niggle, I'd play them it would be a huge boost and would mean two wins on the bounce after Swindon which for me would give us more momentum than if we rested some and lost going into the Cambridge game.
I'd line up maybe as below.
O'Brien - as he played in cup last round and can get some game time.
Grimmer RB
Stokes LB
Willis CB
Davies CB
Bayliss CM
Doyle CM
Maguire Drew RM
Shipley LM
Biamou ST
McNulty ST
Subs: Burge, DKE, Macdonald, Stevenson, Barrett, Vincenti, Beavon
Don't think we can afford to drop Doyle with all his faults he is always barking orders at the seniors and juniors trying to keep them going
Stick the U23s out for I care, they might pull off a surprise given how well they are doing. The cup is a day out, not as important as the league and could be a distraction. I would have swapped last years checkapot cup run for stopping in L1.
And it draws in twice a year fans who sort of irritate me.
Give Doyle a rest? He is the player that can keep going. And no game for a week before this one. He has already proved most doubters wrong. And if he plays well against MK we have a decent chance of winning.
If he was a player that picks up injuries I would also be concerned. But he doesn't.Isn't so much that side that worries me, it's more if he picks up an injury from a bad tackle while Kelly is out.
I'd like to see him have a run on the left. Really don't get this obsession we have of playing left wingers on the right wing. They have to cut back in every time they want to cross the ball which allows the defence mode time to get in position.Barrett should be starting. Don’t like JMD to be honest
tbh I always think it's mental to ignore the cups. One extra game out of over 50 in a season won't make much difference to a player like Doyle.
Lol resting players!
What a load of bollocks.
I played saturdays and sundays for twenty years along with a lot of other amatuers.
50 games a season is nothing, its not like they also have a real job!
Yes if anyone is carrying an injury then its up to the manager to make that decision not us. Isn't thats what he is paid well for?
So they won't be match fit?Cambridge have 9 days before our match without a game
I know what you mean - I've played Sat am followed by Sunday am and Sunday pm (could barely walk afterwards, mind!) but it was just the fact that Cambridge have 9 days before our match without a game, whereas our lads will have 2 days to recover - and dropped points would be gutting against a side we ought to beat. The proof of the pudding and all that.... (more than happy if we pick up 3 points in a scrappy game)
In my playing days absolutely hated missing any game for whatever reason. I would expect no less from a professional.
If you love playing the game you have to treat every game as if it was your last. You never know an injury could finish you at any time. If any of my managers had said i'm going to rest you this week as we have a more important game next week i would have pissed myself laughing.
The only reasons teams should field weakened sides in any competition is for players carrying an injury, giving game time to a player coming back from injury or giving young players valuable experiance.
That's me told, then !!
And we could rest players and lose any decent chance of getting into the next round of the cup. You get prize money for going through and then gate money as well. Then we could outplay Colchester and still lose. How would you feel if we put a weakened side against MK and narrowly lose then they get a big club in the next round? Could be saying goodbye to half a million.I know what you mean - I've played Sat am followed by Sunday am and Sunday pm (could barely walk afterwards, mind!) but it was just the fact that Cambridge have 9 days before our match without a game, whereas our lads will have 2 days to recover - and dropped points would be gutting against a side we ought to beat.
