I know he gets stick from some but yesterday his defending was excellent. That diving header from our 6 yard box typified his work. He isn't the tallest/biggest but he is strong and good in the air. He always gives 100% and conducts himself really well on the pitch and during interviews.
He is a leader and we need more of the players demonstrating this kind of attitude.

Have we ever tried a back two pairing of Lati and Binks? Just wondering. Thomas' passing is dreadful and it just isn't working out with Kitching.

Have we tried that combination at all?

That's what we had preseason and we were much better organised.

For the amount of money spent, the defence is a real issue and needs to be addressed again in the summer. The amount of money spent on Kitching was just bizarre.

Defence is an issue for sure. It’s another area where recruitment has been of players rather than system strategy. We concede some ridiculously easy goals.

Its hard to make sense of it when almost every player has seemingly gone backwards in the last 10 months or so, that coupled with the fact, those brought in haven’t been a patch on those sold.

I was thinking about this too. I think only Eccles and DaSilva have progressed from last season. Unfortunately there are more who have regressed.

I’m generally a bit pissed off we haven’t used the free agent market more. It’s like we’ve felt we have to spend all the cash in the bank. When I say free agents, I’m meaning back in the summer, players like Browne. Not those still sitting on the sofa in October.

Is that definite? I thought the rule only applied to players that had gone through a club's academy? Lati was not a youth player at Swansea but joined them from Man City's youth set up. I thought that no fee applied, for the same reason we received nothing for Gunnarsson when he left for Cardiff when he was the same age as Lati when he joined us last season.

Wish we had paid the additional for Luke McNally at this point. While I know it would have been a large fee, we knew who he was, his personality and where in his development he was. Feel we missed out

Yes. Get your point though.

Looked the only one fully committed to blocking shots/winning headers etc. Thomas is capable but needs experience with him. Neither Binks or Kitching have cut it.

Collins, Thomas, Kitching, Latibeudiere and Binks will be unbeatable in Div 1 next season.

A big issue is the manager cannot make a decision regarding who should make up our first eleven. Fucks about with the critical positions, who is our number one goalkeeper, centre back pairing..... blah blah blah. However, presently I am busy reigning in my expectations.

Really unsure about Binks. Good on the ball but positioning is poor. Would love to know how many wins/clean sheets he’s been involved in. Not many I can imagine.

Totally agree, our better seasons have been with a regular starting 11 albeit having a smaller squad

I thought Lati played well yesterday too, and came across really well in the interview.

I did get a little frustrated when Thomas and Binks had drifted wide, and the Preston forwards went with them creating some space that Lati refused to run into.

Again, a slight frustration in what was a solid performance from him.

I think we’re still suffering the impacts of recruiting our CBs to play a back three but it not suiting any other part of the squad. Lati is clearly as his best in three at the back formation, Kitching probably is as well. We miss Latibeaudiere’s leadership qualities when he’s not playing, but he’s not mobile enough to play in a back two as a CB. I don’t think a back three works for us long term, but I also don’t know how to sort the defence without it at the moment.

A back 3 with hitting on the break is probably our best bet for the coming fixtures where teams will come at us anyway. My concern is that if we concede the first goal we cannot break a team down that way.

Lati is horrible on the ball he is so slow to decide what to do with it and then normally does the wrong thing. I think he is the worst of the of the four and that is saying something.

He's a good defender, but looks uncomfortable on the ball, when we're knocking it around at the back (a continious trend this season) - I still think his best position would be a no-nosense holding midfielder role behind Sheaf & Rudoni, sweeping things up and allowing the other CMs license to get forward and create.

I think his lack of ball skills would show up even more in a holding role. Thomas is no better on the ball either

Just heard his interview. Sounds like the guy actually gets it from a fans perspective. Really like what I'm seeing on and off the pitch from Lati lately. It's times like these when the chips are down that real leaders show their value.

Stick with 3-4-1-2, play Lati in a back 3.

I’ve never been his biggest fan since he signed but it’s obvious he was signed as a CB for a back 3 and he looked solid against Preston. From the interview it seems like he’s got his head screwed on and that’s what we need.

Keep 2 up front, maybe Wright and Bassette or Wright and BTA. Simms for whatever reason doesn’t look up for it at all.

2 up front isn’t going to work well unless we get a partnership, which isn’t going to happen chopping and changing constantly.

Lati has to be the first name in the defence. I understand technically and all that people have reservations. But if he can continue to step up and emerge a leader for the lads, he’ll be worth being in the squad for that alone.

He's pretty average, typical utility player and if all our CBs were in form he doesn't get in the team. He's a better passer of the ball, but is quite slow in possession. Too lightweight for me to play in a 2, got bullied for 60 mins by Armstrong against Bristol in a two, so would need to play wingbacks on which doesn't suit our squad.
