I wonder if the resurrection of reserve team football would be of benefit to the modern game and particularly CCFC.

I see benefits in blooding youth team players, nurturing previously injured players to near full first team fitness and allowing off form players to regain confidence.

Currently we can have a subs bench consisting of several players not having a serious competitive game for several weeks which would have a major impact on contribution to team performance when selected.

Of particular concern is the goalkeeper position - think last year how many games KW missed and the opportunity for the No 2 keeper was practically nil.

I believe CCFC do play a limited number of friendlies throughout the season but these are few and far between and not conducive to building up stamina and on the ball match fitness.

Obviously there are financial implications to consider and possibly having to recruit and pay more players to enlarge the overall squad plus travel and accommodation costs etc - but would the benefits outweigh this???

Thoughts??

I used to enjoy watching the reserves at Highfield Road in the days of 30+ players in the 1st team squad, but unfortunately we're losing money hand over fist. Until we turn the financial corner/get promoted I can fully understand why we can't commit to playing in a professional reserve league.

I dont think many would argue with the theory of having a reserve side, but it all comes down to finance especially in our case. Think the choice is to have a reserve side or academy side and in present circumstances I agree with maintaining the academy side.
