Involving Dublin, Telfer, Whelan etc back in the late 90s.

It's mentioned here: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/apr/15/the-joy-of-six-football-player-managers

Whelan was certainly in the mood for mischief. He tried to give Paul Telfer and Dion Dublin love bites so that they would get in trouble with their partners. Telfer escaped, Dublin chinned him. “They told me it was a new celebration for when they scored,” said Atkinson of the love bites. “I told them it was so long since they had scored I couldn’t even remember what they used to do. But it was all just a bit of hi-jinks.”

This was the pub. A relative was a regular there.

Where was it?

I know pubs in Leamington by place, the only named one I remember is Rio's. Hasn't that closed now?

Whelan on his time living with Gordon Strachan. Brilliant! :claping hands:

While his time living with the Strachans had a positive effect overall and in particular on the football pitch it wasn't without complications.

With a 6pm curfew there was little time for the former Middlesbrough forward to socialise with his friends, while he admitted it also wreaked havoc with his love life!
"I came back after training one day and I said to (Gordon) is it OK to go to the cinema. And he was like 'yeah sure, who are you going with and where?'
"I said 'It's in Lemington and it's just me and Telf (Paul Telfer)'. So I'd just got my popcorn and my Fanta and I was nestling in nicely with my arm out andt hen all of a sudden Gordon, Leslie and the kids came in and I'm sitting therewith this girl!
"He's gone 'alright Telf, you look different tonight'! I just sank a little bit further down (in my seat) with my popcorn! It wasn't very romantic!"

Brilliant, has he got an autobiography out? Would probably be a bit bonkers but worth a read.

Middlesbrough under Robbo had a bit of a habit of crying off games, sure
they did it against us citing a frozen pitch. Everybody else in the
north east played with no problems and there pitch looked more than
playable. IIRC we were on a terrific run at the time and they weren't,
think there was more than a whiff of controversy about it.

Every team needs a Noel Whelan

Best Dion story came from Fergy:

Fergie's only previous brush with anything approaching a
sex scandal had come when he was quoted as describing a former
player's penis as "not just big, it's magnificent", mystifyingly
annoying the recipient of the praise, Dion Dublin.

Can't think of anything else when I watch Homes under the Wanger now... Hammer I meant Hammer
