I think it might have happened this year if he'd kept the band together as the squad was fairly stable but I think the high profile departures screwed us.
Hopefully, as you say, it's sorted for next season.

MR's slow starts make sense when looking at circumstances

17/18 - adjusting to L2, losing JJ
18/19 - adjusting to L1
19/20 - St Andrews
20/21 - adjusting to the Championship, no fans
21/22 - Ricoh return, crowds back
22/23 - pitch debacle, ownership change
23/24 - losing Vik & Hamer, rebuilt squad
24/25 - falling out with his right hand man and completely fucking the staff rebuild

Maybe the extenuating circumstances hid his natural slow starts but we'll never know. It's only this year he obviously dropped a bollock.

Yes most times it does don't forget as well as winning 10 we would probably pick up some draws as well.

If we add two draws, probably. Otherwise, tight.

Hard to see us losing only four games in 16 is all.

Now the answer is no, because Lampard has cleaned up this mess.

It’s pretty much a continuation of our record under Lampard. 3 defeats in 14 games and 50% win ratio.

70pts will get us into the playoffs this season

5th & 6th current position points total very low this season against other year's after 30 games

Yeah, but we've got a run of really tough games soon that I don't see us getting much from based on our games under him so far. If we turn in a good performance vs. Leeds and win most of the games between Leeds and Sunderland, I'll see it differently.

What.
Sheff Wed, Watford, Blackburn, Bristol City, Swansea were all tough. What makes you think apart from maybe Leeds that the upcoming games we not going to get much from?

What would constitute a success for Lampard this season? Obviously sneaking into the playoffs would be a pretty remarkable achievement, but given where we were at when he took over, and the kind of sentiment expressed in this thread and many others - would a top half finish feel like a good start?

For my money anywhere in the top ten is something you can build off with optimism going into a first full season under a new manager, with a different sort of pre-season that hopefully addresses the slow start problem, and ideally with less squad movement than we’ve had the last couple of years.

I think if he achieves a PPG that would have been sufficient for play-offs over a whole season then he's had a good season.

I don't see us getting anything from the run of Sunderland, Sheff Utd and Burnley, and Leeds will be really tough. If we do ok vs. Leeds, whatever the result, hopefully we plough through the games between then and Sunderland and keep ourselves in the mix. I'm just not expecting a miracle finish to the season. I'd be happy to finish strong esp. at home, and have a proper go next season.

Change ‘you’ to ‘me’ and that statement is more accurate

I know it doesn’t play out this way but 5th and 6th currently on track for 69 and 68 points respectively. 10 wins would get us 5th.

Turns out it does play out that way, bravo!
