If we could get cash for Torp and Sheaf I’d do it and keep Allen and Eccles. Reinvest in an extra midfielder in the mould of a Torp + and bolster the squad by bringing Andrew’s back.

You must be on the wind up today. Sell Torp and keep Allen?

Thought he had come on leaps and bounds under Lampard. Definitely missed him for play offs, particularly the first leg.

I thought we may have had the retained list come out already. Suspect it will come by end of tomorrow.

How many games has Torp started since he's been here? How many minutes across a season and a half? He's a great footballer but I don't know how long you give him. He's not a kid, either. I want him starting games and showing what he's capable of but if the club decide we're better off trying someone else, I'd get it.

He’s played in 36 of 46 games this year.

He’s not gonna be on a mega wage, has been growing into his role and it’s unlikely we would get more than what we paid for him.

I don’t really get selling him

Thing with Allen is whilst he's clearly a very useful squad player, is that what he wants at this stage of his career?

He's clearly good enough to be a mainstay in a mid-ranking Championship team.

I think Lampard clearly rates Torp, and he's the one player that we have that can pick a pass through the lines. We could have done with him against Sunderland.

Don't think he's going anywhere.

I think his fitness has improved a lot this season and it’s made a huge difference to how effective he is. He used to be absolutely blowing by 60 mins.

Just had a look seems to have played every minute of every game for St Albans although they were relegated. Scored twice.

But if trivia but Shaun Jeffers and Brandon Mason were also there. Some fall for Mason who was a pretty tidy LB for us for (1?) season, was it the first season back in league 1?

Not on the wind up about Torp at all. He has quality about him and can finish a bit. But he doesn’t influence games anywhere near enough for me. He also lacks two yards of pace and for want of a better word “agility”. For me he’s an easy upgrade.

my opinion of sheaf has changed massively in the last few weeks. i think he showed real heart, maybe having quality alongside him in the shape of grimes has reset his thoughts about his chances of making a difference in the side.
if he can stay injury free him and grimes is a great looking midfield base.

Just cos it’s midfield doesn’t mean they all have to be mid. None of the midfielders other than Grimes and Rudoni have made the spot their own so for me they’re all replaceable.

I back Torp to perform well next season. He clearly has ability. With a full pre-season under his belt with Lampard and the coaching staff and with a consistent run of games I think he'll come into his own a lot more.

It depends on what Lampard has in mind for the team. At the minute, Rudoni and Grimes are locked in for the 3 CM/AM positions. So you have Sheaf, Eccles and Torp fighting for one spot. Assuming Allen leaves at the end of the contract, that headcount will need to be replaced too and dependent on whether or not Andrews is deemed good enough to play a role immediately next season.

To be honest, with how much space we leave between the lines in midfield and defence, I can see us going for something totally different in midfield. Lampard has compared Sakamoto to Kante and the way Sakamoto helps the CMs defend makes me think Lampard will opt for a ‘Kante-esque’ midfielder.

With the tools we’ve got, Torp at his best probably starts for me. Defensively, he’s surprisingly solid. A creative midfielder and he’s a credible goal threat. That all said, he’s not particularly athletic and can be inconsistent.

I think you're reading far too much into the Kante comment, he meant his personality and how hard he works and trains, and the fact he very low maintenance.

If anything, with Grimes playing so deep and the number of crosses we get in the box, we need a box to box midfielder.

I said that about this season. Didn't happen. I can see the argument that if Lampard can improve Rudoni so much in 6 months, Torp might do the same.

Next part isn't at you, but I'm struggling a bit with the 'Wright and Simms can go; Torp can stay' thing. First two delivered last season incl. some big games.

Both fell off this season to different degrees. Torp has had a few standout games. I get Lampard rates him, but I could handle Torp being replaced.

He played half of the league minutes this season. When he's at it, he's great but I haven't seen a player we can trust to be consistent since he joined.

I've said I rate him, I know Lampard does. If we want to get more than 69 points next season, I'd get it if the club decided to try someone else. That's it.

I don't think that's a hot take when lots are talking about selling Wright and Simms who got 19 each last season, and one of them got goals this season, too.

He’s played more than Sheaf, Eccles, Allen and has much better goal contributions than all 3. Considering we would get more money for Sheaf and Eccles all 3 of those I’d earmark to leave before Torp

Fine. I'd rather not sell him, but like an ITK(s) pointed out, if we want to buy more than one or two players for decent money, we'll have to sell some first. I can see an argument for Torp being one. Ideally, keep him and Sheaf, release Allen, maybe sell Eccles, but ideally isn't always the way it goes.

It’s a balancing act, really you don’t want to have too much player turnover because you have other problems getting the team’s cohesion back up. Torp is some way down the list of players to be sold for reinvestment.

If we identify someone better that we think will be more consistent across a 46 games season, and we need to raise funds to do it.
