Would be surprised now if Allen stays, I would have thought we would have announced it earlier. He's been a really good signing for use and I hope he does well if indeed he does leave.

Never ever thought I would say this but keep Allen, he has transformed since Lampard came in and either or both of Sheaf and Eccles to go. Definitely need to do something with the defence so a centre back is essential and alternatives for fullbacks/wingbacks. Obviously need some more attacking threat if we are looking to get to the prem so some rapid players that can control the ball up front out wide...a lot to change but if we are aiming high it has to be done but maybe not in 1 window

I don't think it's wise to lose too many players. Could prove to be very disruptive.

Sheaf may well probably want to go anyway. In that scenario, I think it would be wrong to let both Eccles and Allen go too.

Up front, we can't really afford to offload 3 strikers (Wright, Simms AND BTA). Again, I think that is a tough ask to try and find 3 new strikers.

Bottom line is, I just don't think we can let too many go.

If it were to be Binks, Eccles, Allen, BTA, Simms, Wright, Collins. Plus Burroughs and Howley and then Sheaf leaving of his own accord, that would be 10 players.

Unless we get a very decent offer for Wright. I would keep him. I would keep Eccles too and maybe also Allen as well.

Would love to know why Wright just wasn't the same player at the end of the season though. It's almost like he suddenly switched off.

Combination of things in my view....injury recovery, his laid back character/body language, and being a bit disgruntled with dodgy decision to play him out wide left when he scored a hatty v Sunderland down the middle. On the last point I think FL got it massively wrong playing BTA in home leg..... odd decision.

Well, as others have alluded, I think that was based on his performance against Middlesbrough, when he suddenly seemed to look a very decent player.

But he then returned to his old self in that Sunderland first leg.

I really want to like BTA, but it seems to me that his approach to getting past an opponent is to either beat them for pace. Or to just try and batter his way through them.

I think Sheaf will probably go and so I'd keep hold of Allen and Eccles.
Bassette and Raphael both need to go out on loan and play first team football.
I imagine Collins will be off as well.

Middlesbrough were really going for it and took off defenders for more attacking players which gave BTA more space when he came on, having said that he did well but I still wouldn't have started him in the home leg.
Wright got a knock against WBA in the 1st half right in front of us and I was surprised he wasn't substituted earlier. I think he's been carrying the injury since then which may explain how poor he has been for a few games.

You have to keep Dovin, MVE, Thomas, Kitching, Grimes, Rudoni, EMC and Sakamoto.

You probably keep Bassette, Dasilva or Bidwell, Latibeaudiere or Binks, Sheaf or Eccles.

I wouldn't be upset if we sold Torp, Simms, Wright, Asante for what we paid for them.

and I'd be fine releasing Allen, Howley, Burroughs, Wilson or Collins, anyone I've forgotten!

Edit: no clue about Raphael as I've never actually seen him play in the flesh as I'm a part timer.

Season and a half and I'm not seeing a consistent top six player. You can count the really good games he's had on one hand. Has all the tools, like him, just think we need more than he's giving us. Hope I'm wrong.

Allen was in inspired form when we played 5-3-2 and v Sunderland. Since then, he’s been v average and slipped down the pecking order.

It seems harsh, but I’d let him go.

I like Eccles a lot and hope he stays, but if Lampard isn’t going to give him much game time then both parties would be foolish not to explore a transfer away, he’s a valuable asset in this league.

do we have a loan manager or something like that, someone that checks in with the players on loan, and gets info from the club? maybe even has to produce scouting reports/development reports?

id assume end of loans there'll be alot of data/analytics regarding performance?

Think he’s fine as a backup 8, I want more from first choice and different for backup to Rudoni tho. It’s one reason why I’d only keep one of Eccles Sheaf and Allen to understudy Grimes.

In all fairness to Allen at 30 years old does he really want to be resigned to the bench for another year or would he rather try to potentially look to move to a club where he's guaranteed to start.

Jamie might well opt for a 3 year deal with a top end league one club. Should get a decent signing on fee if he is out of contract here and it maybe his last chance to get a deal like that.

I reckon Burroughs and Howley will be released, Andrews, Moore, Sandiford and Obikwu are the next prospects. Tavares is obviously leaving too.

One or two players will need to be moved on just to keep the wage bill in reasonable bounds and raise a bit more cash for transfers.

I'd expect at least one exciting loan to come in from the likes of Chelsea or Man City. A young player with pace and directness seen more as an impact sub.

I can see Lampard using the loan system for a midfielder and a forward .
Hopefully Andrews keeps progressing as he did well at Motherwell
How did Dausch do on loan?

If the club is thinking about continuous improvement, does keeping Allen improve anything? My answer is no because we need different profiles as Lampard builds the squad in his image.

As Shmeee put it, Sheaf, Eccles and Allen are all more or less similar players. We need to think about selling one of Eccles/Sheaf (maybe even both) to bring in better players.

He’s been a fantastic pro and filled in fantastically at times, perhaps it’s time for him to start a new adventure. It feels harsh but does Allen himself want to remain 4-5th choice? Possibly even 6th choice if Andrews is fancied to play a role next season. Unlikely.

Sheaf and Eccles are similar, Allen isn't like either of them

That would be a good job as we don’t have many out on loan, teams like Man City and Chelsea have one because they have loads out on loan.

They’re similar in that they’re sort of blah CMs without massive defining features. Sheaf the least. They’re OK to fill a hole but we don’t need three of them knocking about.

I don't wish to sound flippant, but in all honesty all those listed could be released,
With the exception of Allen and Collins none of the others are first team ready or showing any signs of adding any meaningful competition, and Collins quite simply has to be moved on as he's a calamity waiting to happen.
Allen is a useful player to have on the bench, but I'd expect him to go and look for regular first team football now.

It’s an oversimplification, how does his role differ from Sheaf or Eccles?

He’s there to win ball and to distribute in tight areas. They’re not clones of one another but the role has essentially the same function.

Either way, unless we move Sheaf and Eccles on, I don’t know why we’d keep Allen. The profile of player that we need has moved on as well.

It’s harsh because he tied together the midfield 3 nicely when we played 5-3-2 but since Grimes has come in, he’s just not had much a look in.

Allen is a Teflon man to be fair, it wouldn’t surprise me if he signed a new contract and found a new niche role to fill.

Ultimately whatever had to be done to enable Lampard to put at least a first XI out that matches his vision needs to be done. If he hasn’t sell some family silver to do it I’d understand. Besides he’s related to Harry Redknapp, no way he doesn’t love a wheel and deal.

Personally I'm expecting a fairly high number of outgoings. None bar Grimes and Paterson are Lampard's players and this summer gives him a real opportunity to mould the squad to how he wants to play.

I understand the sentiment of being wary to do too much in one window, but there's too many players which simply aren't good enough, haven't shown enough or just aren't the right fit currently. It's actually quite a disjointed squad really and that needs addressing this summer.

I do agree though that we won't offload Wright, BTA and Simms all at once. Wouldn't be that shocked to see two of those three go though.

Lampard seems to like having two CMs fairly deep with one given a fairly free role. Not convinced Torp can do what Rudoni does, so if we want cover for Rudoni, I can see a situation where Torp is sold. If we keep him, cool. I like him. Just not sold on his value or output so far. Recruitment team might find someone who they think offers more.
