Referee last night (1 Viewer)

Just seen the goals. Thought all 4 pens were probably pens but have 2 complaints:-

1. When did you start being allowed advantage and the penalty if you don't manage to score?

2. Our second penalty, surely Wilson was as much through on goal as their player for the first pen. Yet no red card. There was a second defender but wouldn't have stopped him as he was through. Lack of consistency.

With regard to the ref last night, I think it should be more of a case to not be in the position for the ref to give the pen. I cannot believe we are still making the same mistakes in the box, it is just brain dead.

On your first point, I remember seeing a PL game this season (before xmas and can't remember which one) and the same thing happened and one commentator said the same but the other said that refs can do it and bring back for the original foul.

Second one is how the ref sees it and was it not the linesman who told the ref after there players told him to speak to said lino. Where was the linesman for when Wilson was through?

I am sorry but it's no wonder why some referee's don't get respect from the players or managers when you officiate like the referee did last night.

Can't comment on his wider performance but card count seemed high. No real complaints about the pens though Robo?

I know what you are saying and to be honest the standard of refereeing varies wildly but again I say that after all the pens we have given away this season, how stupid (or shit) must our players be for making the same stupid mistakes. If this ref is known for being card happy and shite, the players must be smart enough not to allow him the chance to boost his ego.

Their second isn't a penalty IMO only because he played the advantage, his card count has been high all season (103 Yellow's & 7 Red's), the decision not to make it 8 red cards for Legge's challenge on Wilson was also strange considering Callum was clean through bar that all the other penalties looked pretty creditable to be honest.

Which of our players last night would not get in Gillinghams team? Or most other teams in the league for that matter.

Centre halves, other defenders? seeing as this is such a massive part of a successful team, is this not important? on last night you could include some of the midfield and the lad from Villa too.

I do agree with that sentiment, our defending this season has been non existent and it goes back to the bomb squad, should we have kept Wood or Edjenguele?

In a word, Yes. Doesn't matter if they are your type of player or not. If they can do a job then they should be here. It is quite obvious that Webster isn't any good and Seabourne seems to be struggling and we have established that despite Clarke being versatile, he is not a centre half in this league. Thinking about what you said about Clarke being player of the season, has Pressley tried him (or anyone else for that matter) as a defensive midfielder as it is clearly obvious that at times we have needed one. With Clarke being defensively minded but a ball player, would he not fit this bill perfectly?

Wood was never part of the bomb squad, he was out of contract. Don't think we could have kept him given his wage demands and the fact he's now playing in the championship (albeit on the verge of relegation).

Not sure about the Edge, he did ok but we still conceded a shed load of goals given we played a 5 man midfield withe two defensive midfielders (Bailey &jennings) protecting them. Pressley didn't seem to rate him as he preferred wood and Martin as his cb pairing. And he was not long released from a league two club, which tells me something. Sometimes a player comes along a manages to have half decent season, them the following season disappears. I think in the case of edge we're looking back with rose tinted glasses.

The ref got worse as the game went on.

Pen 1 was the right call. Think both he and his Lino called it, but the time it took and the amount of appeals from Gills players before the red was shown summed up his night. As soon as he have the pen he was talking with his Lino via the ear piece. No red card given at this point. What was he asking? 'What's for tea love?'. Following on from Gills appeals, he wanders over to speak in person to his assistant who goes on to say 'red cars'. Why was this not mentioned immediately after the foul via the ear piece? Wouldn't have had any complaints if it had been as it was a clear red.

Their second penalty was most bizarre. I didn't even see a foul; just Webster falling on his back side, akinfenwa shooting and hitting the post. However Lino THEN starts to flag for pen, not before. Did he see something the ref didn't? Did he not see the shot as being advantage played? I'm not sure.

Our second one, not sure if ref couldn't judge distance between Wilson and the two back tracking defenders, but Lino should have seen that Wilson was getting away from both. Yellow card was a terrible decision on that one. It's either red or nothing.

at one stage we had one red ,and 3 yellows and they had 1 yellow ,the score was 1.3 yet the foul tally was something like 13 / 9,with them tallying the 13,.we all know how cards can change a game what ever colour , but they did not get theirs it seems till on paper the game was won.we may have deserved all our cards ,I don't know ,but the stats make it look one sided for what and when the cards were shown..this said ,with SP in charge we should be defending a lot better, and the way we are playing ,,as in we will score more than you .has hit a brickwall. ive admired him for the job he has done ,but a Dundee mate of mine did say we were taking a big gamble due to style of play and no alternatives.

Our 2nd pen Wilson was cynically hacked down when through on goal but no red? Their first pen Seabourne got himself in a mess completely and their 2nd pen, well their lad passed it straight to J. Clarke who, instead of smashing it away when on the edge of his own area, tried to control it when being hustled and jut lost the ball then hacked him down. It's a pen but it shouldn't have been there to give, BOOT THE BALL AWAY. So many individual errors have cost us and it's not just Jordan Clarke. Miss kicks, trying to control when under pressure, needless handballs, players hacking lads down when going away from goal in the area. How do we cut it out though?
