Played his part in an enjoyable game. Kept his cards in his pocket early which helped the game flow. It must be tough on players with inconsistency from ref to ref though.
When he finally gave one it didn’t look as bad as some that were let go (persistent fouls maybe?)
Let Ostigard and Deeney battle without babysitting them (great battle). Osti got away with a couple of piggyback headers.
Right decision for a yellow to Gray. I thought red until the replay. Took his time to decide instead of rushing in with a red
Wrong call against Max for a high foot. It was only hip high.
Let Watford gain 25+ yds on a first half hour throw.
Overall rating 8.5

Thought he was decent but there was probably 2 challenges agaisn’t us that should have warranted yellows. In the main he was spot on I agree but a nice and easy game to manage to be fair

Not so sure it was an easy one to manage. Very nightly early on and different ref could have wanted to take charge and dish out cards from the off nullifying the “hard” game. I really enjoyed the Osti vs Deegan” war (Osti on points) that may not have happened if one or both had been carded. I felt it became easier to manage because he managed it early. It was good to see him share a little banter with the players instead of having a “my way or the highway” attitude

I think a lot of the refs bring controversy on themselves with their dictatorial attitude so its nice to see one smiling his way through a game for a change

Decent performance from Scott and you would like to think so being a Premier League referee.
The high foot one regarding Biamou is always going to be given-I would be doing exactly the same and giving it aswell.
Glad to see he let the Deeney/Ostigard battle play out-others may have nipped it in the bud early doors but that is setting it up then for the rest of the game, especially if the cards would have came out.
The Andre Grey caution was correct also-we have a saying that if it’s an orange challenge (could be red or could be yellow) then it is always a caution (yellow) as an official always knows instinctively when the line has been crossed regarding a red card challenge-this one was just on the correct side of the line.
People calling for a penalty (DaCosta) are wide of the mark, it’s never going to be given, a slight nudge and he went down like a sack of potatoes-not just him though they all do it which is why that will never be given.
Someone else mentioned about it being nice to see him in dialogue and listening/laughing with the players, officials are human and all have different personalities. I have worked with numerous over the years, some are quiet and hardly speak to the players which can be seen as arrogant, some rattle their way through the game which can be seen as being to pally with the players so it’s hard sometimes to get a good balance which I think he had today.
A good solid 8/10

Thanks Adge. Always enjoy your feedback. Can you elaborate on your position re Biamou’s “High” challenge? I really didn’t think his foot was that high and didn’t come close to making contact with the stooping defender.
Re Da Costa’s penalty shout. It did look a little too much of a dive and Zi didn’t for a second expect a pen but the defender did raise his arm and push. For me that’s always treading s fine line,

The Biamou high challenge will always be given and you are correct, I think we all saw a bit of a stoop from the defender, but say the defender didn’t stoop (with his head) there is still always a chance that a foul will be given as the foot was ribs/chest high and could cause an injury.
This like previously stated will always be given if the player (defender) in this case is in the vicinity-so dangerous play is the infringement, (don’t confuse that with endangering an opponent which some people do) but if the defender wasn’t in the vicinity (or playing area of the ball etc) there is no “dangerous play” scenario so play would continue.

Thanks. I’ll have to rewatch. I didn’t think it was chest high. I used to ref in the ‘80’s when “dangerous play” was often given against the player whose head was too low. Not saying we should have had anything in this case

Thoughts on the shove on Da Costa?

Overall, decent performance from the ref I think.

Da Costa was pushed with an outstretched arm. His dive was a little too obvious and it was never going to be given. If he had stayed on his feet it might have developed into a bit of a wrestling match.

Looked to me like a penalty. Don’t think he dived, was just running at pace.

I think same scenario in our box, it's a pen to Watford.

Yep-unfortunately that will always be the biased view on a football forum or between fans as we all want our team to win. From a neutral officials view it will never be given.

Again, because you’re a Coventry City fan the biased view will make you arrive at that thought.

Good ref: to be fair. I never really noticed him most of the game that’s a good sign.

The big decision he got wrong was a professional foul on Max on the half way line to stop a counter attack by a player that was already on a yellow with about 15 to go. Should have been a second yellow.

Yeah maybe...I like to think I’m fairly realistic about such things. Certainly worth another view.
I thought it was an entirely unnecessary ‘challenge’ from Sarr -Dacosta was going nowhere - which I thought at the time might have made it look less like a foul.

It was a blatant push. Outside the box the ref gives a freekick.

Would you say it was a foul?

If it’s your team you would say yes-so would the other team.
“I’ve seen them given” but no not for me if I was a neutral.

The foul(s) by Chalobah in the first half meant he should have been booked IMO. Other than didn’t really notice him, which is generally a sign of a decent game.

Would have been given as a free-kick anywhere else on the pitch.

At the time I thought it was just outside the penalty area.
