Watching that angle posted above, I'm now undecided again, not sure what else he can do.

How could Thomas have made that challenge Pete? What’s the approved way? Just let the man go past?

For me, the ref was too lenient first half. Was allowing them to foul persistently without sanction. He had to pull a yellow earlier.

he has to
As a ref I think it’s a free kick so pen

As a ref is there any challenge he could make? What if the ball hadn’t ricocheted back and just went off for a throw in or something?

Then I don’t support the rule. A defender in Thomas’ position should be within their rights to challenge for the ball (and win it!).

Absolutely agree with this. Not the best refereeing performance in general.

As ref Pete, if the keeper comes sliding out and makes a similar clearance is it a pen?

Still don’t get this follow through thing. Have people ever kicked a ball? If you’re trying to snap your foot back after contact you aren’t kicking the ball properly. You should kick through the ball.

Genuinely baffled.

And it's not even like the Palmer penalty last week where the contact is near instant.

He's miles from the player when he makes contact.

If he’s giving that penalty he also has to give their keeper a foul and a booking too.

That one where Palmer turned the Leicester player and he's through 3 on 3 and he didn't book him

Didn’t think Palmer’s booking was a foul never mind a card either

He got booked for kicking the ball away.

Yet their players did it multiple times

It was absolutely never a penalty but turns out the red card was the more significant decision in the game anyway.

Ball was there to be won, it was won, fairly. You could argue reckless but for me he was there way in advance of the attacker. If it was a 50/50 it may be a different story.

When you make a tackle it’s all split second stuff but you do have time to make a decision. You can crash through the player or curtail it a bit. Nowadays you have to go for the latter. Thomas chose the former. Go back 30 years and there’s not even a question and it’s a great tackle. But, like it or not (and I don’t) the game nowadays doesn’t allow it. It’s a non contact sport. Defenders have to play in what I would describe as five a side mode - you can’t go to ground.

Have to be clever but you can’t follow throigh and cause serious injury

I will. I am, generously speaking, half cut. I will miss understand!

Does it relate to reckless play and or endangering the oppo?

I don’t see anything unclever about the defending - how else is he supposed to get the ball? (Especially considering he did get the ball)

If that ball gets cleared instead of hitting KDH then no pen. Looks like KDH gets the ball with the ricochet and made it look worse.

That’s a ref who doesn’t know football-it’s a clearance of course there’s a follow through but how else of Thomas expected to get any power without a follow through.

Also KDH just runs through him and isn’t that dangerous?

Red is a red-dangerous play and out of control.

The yellow for Milan for saluting L*ster fans was ridiculous-he should have booked Mdidi for booting the ball into the supporters as the same.

Only booked Milan because of the L*ster players.

Were we really that dirty-12 fouls and 4 yellows.

He should have wielded the cards early on those chopping challenges on COH.
