Ref watch (4 Viewers)

I was talking to a local ref recently who spent time with some more higher level league refs.

He said when mic'd up, the ref makes nearly all of the calls and tells the linos to raise their flag or not. The lino will tell the ref over the mic, what he's seen but will not raise his flag until the ref agrees and tells him too. That is why it takes so long for offside flags to go up.

This also avoids the ref and linesman going against each other on a decision. Ref as the ultimate call, will defer to the linesman if needed.

The penalty call alone was so bad, that questions should be asked about his capability. Not that any of the officials seemed up to scratch today.

It's embarrassing. The quality of officiating at this level overall is so bad, everyone knows it, and yet nothing ever gets done.

Surely that can't be right? The ref won't be in a position to determine whether someone's offside or not. That's bonkers.

Anyone got a replay of the pen?

I thought it was a foul but Milan seemed to want to get a pen rather than take the shot.

Nah that’s bollocks you can see he’s trying to get around the ball and is pulled over. Lorna whatsit tried to claim that as well which should tell you how good an opinion it is :p

It's the refs call as to whether the player, in an offside position, is actual active in the phase of play. They wait for as long as possible to let the game continue without stoppage as much as possible.

shocking today.
although, simms clearly kicking it out and us getting a corner was quite funny

I think the lino was the only person on that side of the ground that didn’t see it come off Simms (the crowd laughing almost gave it away).
Did Simms then score from that corner or is that my mind playing tricks?

No she didn’t! She said maybe that’s what the ref was thinking, even said after she didn’t think that.

It was a terrible call, he gets dragged, you could see the movement from miles away. No excuse for the ref.

Definitely a theme at this level. Watching the Stoke game earlier and Hull weren’t given a nailed on penalty too. And then one of the strangest offside decisions I’ve ever seen.
