Surely Darren Drysdale's gonna be in some hot water for this. Ipswich player gets angry about not being given a pen and the ref walks towards him and puts his head in before booking him. It's not like he's walked up and nutted him but you rarely get to see a ref lose his cool like that.

Darren Drysdale: Referee charged by FA after squaring up to Ipswich player in extraordinary clash after 'dive'

The official leaned his head into the midfielder, in the sort of incident that can result in players being sent off.

players constantly say 'it's okay for fans to have a go back but when we have a go back they don't like it'.

Well surely the same logic applies to players and refs? They constantly moan and get in their face so fuck 'em. Not like Drysdale properly stuck the nut on him.

Always remember Neil Midgeley in the 87 Cup Final having a right go at someone...can't recall who it was though.

Player wholly in the wrong here & the media reaction against Drysdale is disgraceful.

Judge is correctly being booked for a laughable, desperate dive & responds by bad mouthing the official & thrusting his finger in his face.
Judge is clearly the aggressor & confronts Drysdale rather than the other way around, Drysdale refuses to be intimidated & stands his ground.

Judge is very lucky to have escaped a 2nd yellow for dissent & should today be issuing a grovelling apology but instead, his club & the media instigate a pile on against the referee.

Consistent, disgraceful lack of respect given to referees by players meant this kind of incident was sadly inevitable.

What are the other two players doing dragging the ref away rather than dragging their player away?

ipswich will be charged for that

Shock horror, Lambert has issued a statement & text the EFL asking them to investigate Drysdale.

Methinks he's trying to deflect from yet another woeful performance & result from his team.

Judge should be upgraded to a red and the other two should be charged with assault

The fa need to be strong here so parks games don’t descend.

you cannot manhandle the ref like that p

I think it's blown up because you so rarely see it from a ref, which therefore makes that the story. Only reason I said I can see him getting in hot water is due to the reaction of press etc. Be interesting to see the take of PGMOL v PFA v FA

Really does need to be a no hands on the ref. I can’t believe the other ipswich players won’t be charged. To be fair it does look like he’s going to headbutt him

Lambert is trying to shield from another terrible performance. What did the player say to ref I am sure he wasn’t asking him about his well being.

Didn't Collina used to love getting in player's faces?

Don't see any issue with this for Drysdale.

How can you essentially suspend the ref when you've had years of doing absolutely nothing to stop mistreatment of refs by players?

Ref shouldn't have got in his face but to be honest I'm surprised more than that hasn't happened sooner. The FA should come out and say anything that isn't fully respectful towards the ref is a yellow. If a team surrounds the ref then everybody but the captain is booked, after a few weeks with loads of cards and sending offs they'd get the message and it would stop. They just let them get away with it for no reason and it filters down to grassroots where you end up with a lack of refs because people are sick of getting punched during games.

Nah, if players are allowed to do it with no repercussions then so should refs. This is a direct result of the FA not protecting refs, just like when a weak ref fails to control a game and it devolves into chaos.

I've said it before, it's one thing, in fact, the only thing, football can learn from Rugby and that's the treatment of the refs and the respect they're given.

Afraid Drysdale was always going to face some form of action. Though like many I often wonder how ref's don't snap more often when you see players surrounding them trying to press-gang them into making a decision.

But what about the player? What's he going to get for his part in it? Surely he's bringing the game into disrepute?

He gets nothing at all of course. The typical double standards in football.

FA need to get serious with this Respect campaign as what's seen on TV & in stadiums is imitated on parks everywhere

Marching over to the referee, mouthing off & thrusting your finger in his face is absolutely fine but how dare the ref stand his ground & refuse to be intimidated.

I guess as the player was booked by the ref in the aftermath, we've got this ridiculous rule where no further action can be taken against him by the FA/EFL.

Well no, he was booked for the dive not the reaction. Drysdale should have issued a 2nd yellow & sent him off really.
