He looked like he didn’t want to give the second yellow and it couldn’t have been more obvious.

The foul on Simms is a penalty.

He booked our players for nothing.

The amazing thing is he was far from the worst this season

Yes I have! As my son said you get sent off in Rugby for doing that type of challenge and it was stonewall penalty

And yet earlier on in the season we’d have just left the ref to it. Glad we have a bit of ‘bite’ about us now.

Did you see the pen given to Middlesbrough, terrible decision.

I thought it was definitely a pen live, but having now watched it back it's 50:50 imo.

Thought the ref was OK tbf. Weve seen much worse on many occasions. He got the cards out a bit too quickly, but credit for getting the red card spot on.

Madness how he's getting credit for giving styles a second yellow there won't be a more blatant yellow all season.

Disgusting decision, blatant cheating by the borough player and the ref bought it, lock stock and barrel.

The football league really need to do something about the standard of refereeing in the championship, it's just not up to standard, not fit for purpose.

That penalty decision could prove to be a massive decision for so many clubs. It's simply not good enough.

Although the red card could see the player banned for our game on Monday, with little time for an appeal, and the football league will be too cowardly to overturn the decision as to do so would admit that it was never a pen, and that result could have a huge bearing on both ends of the table.

Felt for Hull today shot from Swansea player hits their player around the face and ref gives handball and a pen.

He was very poor.

Usual lack of consistency, casing point being the Sheaf booking which was ridiculous. Their player does the exact same foul and no car shown.

The second yellow was blatant too, no way he couldn’t give it.

Gave way too many soft or just not fouls, every time we made a tackle at one point.

Can I ask, as was in Block 11 and it was in the second half, what happened for the challenge on Haji in the area where he went down and the referee gave a free kick the other way?

I thought he gave it for simulation but didn't book Wright, at least that I saw. That was the one that stuck in my head as I was trying to work out what he gave.

In theory yes but as he bottled giving the pen for the foul on him he probably bottles that as well.

Didnt and still dont think it is, both players giving it. Its quite telling that Simms didnt protest that it wasnt a pen.
And the Haji one was 10000% not a pen but shouldnt have been a FK the other way

Thought the ref today had a pretty good game. Got the big call right (second yellow for styles), set out his stall early re wba creeping yds from throw ins etc. yes you could argue a bit of inconsistency in some of the soft fouls and we were lucky the Lino gave Armstrong offside when he wasn’t (but that not the refs fault). Only obvious mistake for me was the (probable) penalty for the shoulder/neck wrench to the ground on simms although in refs defence I couldn’t tell if ball would have gone way over simms head a much better ref performance than the last two up at home

Very telling that a ref who got one or two obvious decisions right folks saying he was a good ref.

From the off he bottled blowing for challenges from behind on Simms and Hadji.

Didn’t give a yellow for the disgraceful sliding challenge on Saka-which only encouraged Brom players to be more aggressive.

Completely got it wrong when WBA player slipped and Dasilva stepped over him and got the ball -only to blow up for a non existent foul.

But yes it did give our players yellows for the same offenses and blew very consistently against our players even when they appeared to win 50-50 challenges like Lati did!

Simms did appeal for it. It should’ve been a pen. Both may have been giving it but Simms was favourite and in the way. It’s not just a nudge, he’s caught him high up.
Wright’s definitely wasn’t though! Probably should’ve got a yellow for handling the ball on the floor.

Exactly what I thought. Looks fucking solid. To your point a ref in the stands or even in the video room but as "live support" instead of just VAR would be helpful. Like hey I saw that and think it looked a foul to me...without taking 5 minutes to VAR it.

Other sports have multiple refs on the pitch and it seems to work

When the NHL was adding a second ref years ago, lots of people talked about how it would ruin the game and refs would call the same game differently. As soon as it was implemented, NOBODY complained about it. There's just too much going on not to add a second ref.

I thought the Simms one was a foul. He grabbed him round the neck and pulled him down. Ref had a good view of it as well.
Haji was being pulled by the defender and you see VAR giving them in the Prem. It always looks soft but a pull is a pull.

If there is any justice whoever dived for Boro will get a 3 game ban like Godden did for diving against Fulham.

Will never happen though, they're corrupt af.

Dare I say it but as much as I hate it perhaps VAR is needed now in the Championship.
with the referee decisions and performance weve seen this season something needs to be done.
imagine if Middlesborough now beat us last game to secure a playoff place when they should be two points less through pure cheating getting that penalty decision

I'd like to see the Simms one again, anyone got a clip? I was certain at the time it should have been a penalty. I don't see how grabbing around the neck is ever a justifiable challenge.

Wright was being held for sure but it's all about action & consequence - was that sufficient reason for him to go down? Not really, no. Not sure why people think Haji should have been booked though?

I definitely think refs need help with the big decisions, although I hate the long delays you get with VAR. But better a delay than a wrong decision I guess.

I thought the ref was reasonable today and got most things right. Too many fans just think their opinion is always right. Okay you may see it differently to the ref and but they make decisions based on what they see. How many of us see incidents from their distance and angle. Being further away from incidents in the stands often gives you a better view.
