It's been said before, but TM has an experienced defender right under his nose in Reda. Surely a six month contract is possible?

Wasn't there something about that not being allowed? Would it work if we gave him a month at a time? He'd be a free agent at the end of each contact and could sign again.

Not an ideal solution but unless TM has someone lined up might be worth considering.

Why would he sign a pay as you play when he has a mortgage, kids, wife etc. to pay for. He plays 1/3 of a season which equates to around 15 games. Be realistic people, even if that was possible the guy has a life, no chance he'd ever sign that kind of deal in a million years. We'd get laughed at if we took a PAYP deal to his agent

He's currently earning £0 per week and it doesn't look like any other clubs are interested in signing him, so he may agree to a short term deal?

I think Mowbray, or somebody else at the club, has said that they would like him there and are an admirer of him but his salary demands don't match up with the number of games he plays. It's all well and good saying get him on a PAYP but I don't thin RJ is interested in that.

No, no, no.

Without wanting to repeat myself.

1) TM has said they are nowhere near close in expectations in wage or length of contract. Reda doesn't want a shirt contract, and as he is not constrained by the transfer window he is in no rush to sign any deal. In order to tempt him into a short term deal (as he isn't desperate yet) we'll have to offer a better financial package.

2) hes been out injured with a bad injury for over 9 months and hasn't had a full pre season and nowhere near ready to play first team football.

3) he will invariably breakdown within 10-15 games, that men's if you threw him straight inhe'll be injured by October. There is no loan window so we can't replace him

4) because of his injury record and no loan window if we signed reda, we would still have to sign another 2 defenders because he can't stay fit. So we end up signing 3 CB's (including reda on good money to get him to sign a short term contract) and using more of the wage budget.

If hes still available in September and willing to sign a payp (or similar) short term deal to add him to the squad then, that's fine, but its not worth the gamble at this time when thr window is still open for another 3-4 weeks.

Offering a short term deal is more likely. But I highly doubt he'll accept a pay as you play type deal. It offers no guarantees to either Reda or his agent. both parties lose out because its a case of when not if, concerning Reda getting injured. What he's holding out for is a one year deal because it is illegal to terminate a players contract due to injury, therefore he's looking for that guarantee. Don't get me wrong i think he's in no position to be declining such an offer, I'm merely pointing out the reality of the situation.

He isn't fully fit at the moment, let alone in the future? How is signing Reda going to move us forward. He is months away from playing.

When his knee pings off again on september 5th, we won't be able to replace him due to the new loan window. He's also Reda Johnson not fucking Maldini

Everybody seems to be assuming we are in the driving seat as he is looking for a contract.
Unfortunately we're not as there are other clubs who are interested and know all about his injuries.
We have offered him a contract that will be matched and beaten by bigger clubs than us (that means most clubs in league one!!!)
I'm afraid he is on his way back up to the grim North.

Is Reda good enough for a L1 promotion challenge? Yes
is his body fit enough? No
Is it worth the gamble? If it was the 1st September and the window was shut, I'd say yes. As things stand, unfortunately it's a no.

Plus that Sheffield Wednesday thing still gets my goat.

cannot u/stand why he needs an agent, he is intelligent enough to bargain with the club & save himself a fair bit of dosh by hoofing out the agent, more footballers should do it

Nothing to stop us offering him a contract with a very low weekly wage (like £300 a week for example) and add huge performance related incentives.

Beat me to it Stu. Looks like we wont be seeing him in a Cov team again (unless he gets a contract as a forward for Wasps).

Cue abuse for calling Wasps a "Cov team"...chill out, it's just a gentle joke about Reda's "big unit" dimensions....

At this minute in time it's very much is a non starter in TMs eyes and is concentrating on other targets.
However is this a double bluff from TM in making realise what's realistic for him.
Is TM saying there is nothing here for you due to your demands and previous history... Therefore making reda and his agent tout him about.... If no suitors come in which is highly likey then he may well have to look at a short term contract come end of September / October time or face being left in the wilderness and find it even harder to find a club. This is when TM offers him a lifeline to supplement our new defensive options that are yet to arrive.
I'm sure he's made a few bob from his previous contracts and can afford to sit tight for a bit longer... Time will tell.
