Looks like Tony is confident of Reda signing in the next day or so.

Oh and it's been reported in CET before I get shot down.

Reda Johnson appears ready to commit himself to Coventry City for the new season as the club close in on another summer target.

Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray believes an agreement between the 27-year-old defender and the club is “pretty close” and hopes to be able to confirm the player’s decision shortly.

Mowbray also revealed that the club are putting the finishing touches on another deal for a defence-minded player, possibly a holding midfielder, before switching his attention to more forward-thinking personnel.

“We’re still working on Reda and I would hope that is pretty close,” said the manager, who has been chasing the Frenchman all summer.

“I have got a potential decision on that and I’m hoping it’s a positive one in the next day or so.

“We have another potential signing in the next day or two and then after that there will be a concentration on forward players.”

Although Mowbray hasn’t committed himself to naming a preferred position for his first fresh signing, Sam Ricketts, he admits the 33-year-old alongside Johnson in the centre of City’s defence would make for a formidable partnership in League One.

"I’d hope so,” he said, “but as we have said before, we need to get Reda on the pitch for more than half a season by making sure we manage him through the difficult times to make sure he stays away from injury.

"And if we can keep him on the pitch it will give us a strong platform to work from or to build from.”

He added: “Sam has been brought for his versatility as well as his other qualities. I didn’t bring him in to play one specific position and yet at this moment in time there’s the potential for him to play in central defence, of course.

“I have had certain targets that have drifted away from us and deals that have been more difficult to do for different reasons, some finance and some because of difficulties taking them out of the clubs that they’re at, so in my mind he would be coming in with versatility depending on what else we manage to sign.

“Sam is there, really, as a comfort blanket to fill in a number of positions and yet I am pretty sure in my mind that he will nail down one position. And as long as he produces the goods and the standard required he can play in that position.”

Reda and someone else too, even though i've slated Reda's delay, he will be welcomed back, no denying his presence when fit and playing.

Yeah, but you know, if he can't be bothered to do the negotiating himself, sod him

Fantastic news, decent defensive partership with Ricketts.

Slowly getting more and more excited about next season

The main thing for me about reda singing is it further pushes Aaron Martin out of the picture. We won't get anywhere with Martin starting at CB this year...

I will be quite happy for him to sign but we must get at least 35 league games from him. If he and Ricketts stay fit it is a strong centre of defence but perhaps a bit slow. The full backs look good at this level too. And reasonable cover defensively unless they all go on loan.
Now for midfield and then attack. I still think we need a defensive midfielder...any thoughts on perhaps Willis being tried there?

Mowbray has said he hopes to bring defense minded midfielder in next couple of days...Willis isn't the answer. He will be a very good back up CB for is this year.

Yes I hope he does. My fear is that whoever Mowbray is after might slip through his fingers. For me last season this was the big area we suffered in...little protection for the defence. Is there anyone at the club who could do the job if we don't get the right guy?

Reda to sign will be good for us as he makes a difference when he plays. Just got to get him fit. Reda and Ricketts looks good on paper.

Great news if he signs.

If I could have all the eggs people will have over their faces if he does sign that would be great. Omelette for lunch tomorrow.
