I'd always assumed it was Calista Flockheart but having googled what she actually looks like... I don't have a clue.

It's not true though. Plenty of us could see what (especially) Wright & Simms were capable of, and were appalled by some of the brainless abuse they were getting.

I could never really understand why the players were getting so much flack when Adi and Robins took so long settling on a team and formation. I don't blame the managers for that but they were clearly scratching around in the dark for the first few months.

If you'd taken a poll on this forum as to whether we should sign up Gyokeres after his loan spell, he'd have been sacked off. People are influenced too much by a few mistakes or clumsy moments, and can't seem to see obvious attributes.
I wouldn't have predicted that Gyok would become the most sought-after striker in Europe, but he always looked to me like the kind of player we'd needed up front for years.

I personally think it’s really easy to say now that you believed in it all. I remember standing on a train platform away at Preston and thinking we’d fucked it all. Not saying you’re lying at all but I’d like to see some proof before you go all big dick on me

I do remember thinking Lati and JDS were our best pieces of business early doors last season. Plenty more to give!

Genuine Q

it was hard to see the positives at rotherham away and huddersfield at home, was it not?

Rotherham, no. Huddersfield was a game we should’ve won even if it was a dire game.

Looking back, I don’t think our slow start was as bad as people made out at the time. There were games we should’ve won but didn’t and Huddersfield at home being a great example. Rotherham was probably the worst performance of the season, even topping PNE (H).

It boils down to trusting the process and Robins’ judgement. We’d just let go 17 players and brought in 14, there’s a lot of adaptation in involved. Again, we had players signed from all over Europe so needed time to bed in.

Robins made some tactical errors, 3-4-1-2 wasn’t getting the most of the players and he figured out a system that worked really well. With foresight, had we planned to play 4-2-3-1 from Day 1 we’d have made better choices in the transfer market and started better.

Look, I’m an optimist and will always look for positives. I’ll admit there were times I was going off faith in Robins and the team.

Proof aplenty in loads of threads early last season. Nobody was pretending we were doing brilliantly, but lots of us were ready to defend the new signings, highlight their attributes and potential, and give the team time to come together.

We had a nice little chat in the Preston match thread last year, where you thought I was a nutter for saying we should wait to see how things turn out before having a meltdown.

I don’t even think it’s this. I think even if you didn’t blindly believe robins is always right (which is fine), there was nowhere near enough material evidence to be ringing the alarms and frothing about wasted money. There were green shoots for sure and people were ridiculed for recognising them.

Some people just stay immature as fans no matter how much they age. Always stressing, panicking, getting angry etc

Tutting and sighing all game long. Calling time on a player after 1 game etc

It's not excusable as just passion imo. People need to try to learn from mistakes.

The only thing that slightly worries me is that our leaky defence of last season especially at set pieces hasn't been upgraded, although the keeper has (hopefully), so I would have liked some movement in that department that said theres still time and with our forward line and midfield upgrades I doubt the opposition will have time to creep into our half anyway

They’re a relatively young backline though and I expect theyll have learnt a lot from last season. Getting Binks permanently was a good signing. The only disappointment for me is Kitching - this will be a big season for his career.

Well Collins, Moore and Wilson all got dropped due to a few mistakes and clumsy moments.

It's certainly tough for keepers.

Especially in Moore's case as we understand he had off field issues and therefore should perhaps of been "rested" till his head was right.

Either way pro football can be brutal at times.
