Left sided forward seems to be Wright's place now. Are we replacing him or just providing competition?

Providing cover and options I think. You could play Dasilva, O’Hare, or Palmer in a pinch but it’s not ideal (and O’Hare is off in Jan and Palmer is made of glass)

Niche. Let me know if you're looking to set up a franchise north of the border; I reckon I could do quite well.

We beat a hapless Birmingham team and our double digit million strike force still couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo.

Ironically, the cheaper signings are doing better.

Blah blah “time to adjust” blah blah “Haji can put his own boots on”.

Hope our strikers improve if we’ve any chance on anything. That’s the 20 game view.

Don't need to when you can smash the keeper in the face. Enjoy being pessimistic, pal! Unfun.

Shows that robins can also spend money btw .

Van ewijk 4 Mill
Thomas 2 mill
Kitching 4 mill
Sakamoto 2 mill
Collins 500k
Lati 500k

All very solid signings

Jury still out on the 2 strikers

6/8 that we've spent money on showing up good and still plenty of time for the other 2 to turn their fortunes right around

Find it interesting that MR spoke about the famous gelling period last night. Results have suddenly improved despite changing system to 4 at the back and using wingers for the first time in years.

Do you not agree with the manager that some teams need time to get it right ?

I do. But we made a pretty significant tactical change midway through a game and looked better almost immediately, have done since. Seems more that we've chosen to play to people's strengths rather than shoehorning them into something that wasn't working.

That and Collins/Kitching/Thomas have already played together for a full season.

Well we had to play matches to find out that a system we played for 6 years suddenly wasnt working .. a manager reluctant to change something that's not failed him in years .. but even in most of the last 5 matches we weren't seeing quick intricate moves that we seen last night .. fact is several players are improving as the season moves

Point being that if it was about gelling to that extent, changing the system that much would in theory make performances more disjointed...it did the opposite

Players can still be gelling even when they're losing .. we created many chances and should have won a good portion of the games even In a wingback system .
.. Still not sure what point is being made besides moaning for no apparent reason

Alternatively, the fact we didn't do it earlier is because we'd been working on it in training to get it right.

I have a theory that part of the reason some players don't make it to the top isn't their actual technical football skill, it's their football brain and the fact they take longer to adapt to different things, such as formations, than the best of the best.

4231 , players can act as wingers but generally they are wide attacking midfielders

Which is clearly different from playing a single attacking midfielder centrally behind two forwards, or a central box midfield.

It is , however depends how high up your wing backs get .. attacking though now we have fullbacks right up the field doubling up on opposition fullbacks .. so really we can now attack with 5 or 6 whereas before it was often 3 or 4 .

We didn’t play 4231 last night.

I would characterise it as 4123 or 4141.

Sakamoto is playing as a fairly traditional winger IMO with Wright in more of an inside forward role.

Not being argumentative I just didn't see what you saw , we defended compact in a 4231 as shown here very clearly

We've played 4-2-3-1 several times. People kept disputing it, despite the clear evidence.

Yes , people might see the wide attacking midfielders drop in to defend giving us a 4 midfield defensively or even a 5 but reality is the system is 4231

What a load of shit. 'Traditional' wingers were purely attackers, Sakamoto regularly gets back and defends properly.

Sorry, what does one still image prove?

We’re arguing semantics here really.

Allen was definitely playing further forward than Sheaf.

That image shows clearly an attacking midfield 3 and a striker , allen playing slightly ahead of Sheaf in the 2 and our fullbacks getting high

The formation is 4231

Sakamoto playing a bit wider more often to help deal with their best player ?

The only surprising thing about that image is that bidwell gets more forward than van ewijk

Where are the posters that were praising Stoke and birminghams recruitment whilst putting ours down?

And the posters that said gelling wasn't an excuse because Middlesbrough had gone on a win streak? Just 2pts difference ffs
