Real shame we're not going to try in the Johnstone's Paint (1 Viewer)

We're fifteenth in the fucking third division. After almost fifteen years of mid-table lower league positions, with pretty much nothing positive to ever cheer on, I don't really feel like we're in a position to be binning off the cups. It's a stupid fashion at the moment where all managers think they have to 'concentrate on the league' and not bother in the cups, even though it won't make much difference to where we finish in the league and we're not going up or down anyway. A day at Wembley would be a dream come true for many younger fans. I like Steven Pressley but I'm really annoyed about this.

Its a pointless stupid cup. I couldn't care if we lost 5 - 0 as long as we win Friday.

The quote from Pressley...“It’s not just a case of giving some of our younger players game time and experience because, make no mistake, this is a game we want to win, so I will only use them if I think they can help us achieve that.” Sounds good to me, the stuff about limits to changes is just the Telegraph padding the story out.

I feel like this cup was the only real hope of having something to cheer about this season so this is very disapointing, obviously the league is more important but am still far from convinced we can challenge for promotion. love to be wrong of course.

How can you say we are not going up or down so early in the season but then be booking your hotel for a trip to Wembley? JPT is a nice to have but isnt going to create lots of revenue and isnt that important in the long run. I would agree with this approach.

I think most teams will ring a few changes won't they? We have to play Saturday then Tuesday then Friday? It would be folly not to make changes.

SP will want to win this game for numerous reasons make no mistake. Losing and going out in the JPT will increase the pressure on him and wycombe is a very winnable game. A win will breed confidence and SP hasn't had enough wins this calendar year.

Totally agree with you as getting out of this division is our main priority. What's the point of going to Wembley and still stuck in League One ? Going to Wembley in the play offs now that is different !

Why are you annoyed? The article you linked stated that SP said

“It’s not just a case of giving some of our younger players game time and experience because, make no mistake, this is a game we wan art to win, so I will only use them if I think they can help us achieve that.”

WE have to use the squad, FFS how do we develop others in the squad if we never give them game time?

We have only lost 1 league game so far and if we win Friday will be just outside the top 6.

Assuming this is directed at me, I don't think we have much chance of getting promoted and nore do I think we have much chance in the JPT, however if you arn't good enough to get promoted that doesn't prevent you being good enough in a competition like this especially as in the early rounds at least many clubs don't take it seriously, by the time everyone is taking it seriously you only have to win say 3 games and your at wembley, an average club can win 3 games, they probably aren't getting promoted though.

So I stand by my opinion that this tournament is our best chance of having something to cheer about so not taking it seriously is disappointing.

yes if we win friday we are up near the playoffs, if we lose friday, we are down near relegation, so how about we don't add extra wins or losses and just discuss whats actually happened?

we've got 6 points from 15 and have struggled. we've had a tough start though sure but the squad doesn't look good enough and it certainly doesn't look big enough. Like I say I'd love to be wrong but we've recruited under exceptionally difficult circumstances this year so pressley will have had to pull a blinder for us to have a squad with a real chance of promotion.

I agree with your general point about managers and their attitude to cup competitions, but having now read the article, I'm not sure there is anything to worry about in terms of how SP is approaching the game.

The team need to gel together and start working as a unit.
This is an ideal scenario perhaps taking off key players on the hour. ( Don't know who they are :) )
We had a full house 2 years ago so it's hardly something the fans don't want.
Of course we want to win Friday but big changes into this then big changes back Friday will have the reverse effect IMHO.

Lets get this team working together.

Wasnt aimed at you but the OP but we would still be playing similar competition unless you are lucky round after round and avoid league one opposition. Again this trophy is a nice to have but certainly not pivotal to any future progression as a club. Promotion is the only thing we need to be concerned about, the cups are background noise. If Pressley played a bunch of kids on Friday's game in favour for the JPT, there would be hell to pay.
