Trying not get too carried away, but it's hard not to when your dubutant striker has an outstanding game. He really seems to be the missing piece of the jigsaw we have been searching for. Without him, it would have been another draw or 1-0 loss (Based on that he scored, got an assist and played a part in the third).

24 hours ago I would have said that we were gonners, but now I honestly believe we have a real chance of staying up.

The fixtures have also fallen relatively kindly for us, with a win next Tuesday taking us 3 points off ipswich (they play west ham) and then the following week we play Ipswich at home As I said im desperately trying not to get carried away, but can we survive?

Let's put things in perspective,

It was against 10 men. We did get an own goal in our favour. The 2nd goal quite possibly didn't cross the line. Boro have been on a bit of a bad run themselves of late. We have only scored 6 goals away all season.

The last point is the most relevant here. We have to pick up points on our travels. We simply have to.

Only then will we possibly have a glimmer of a chance.

No harm in staying positive. My gut feeling is its too late but I will keep going until its mathamatically impossible for us to stay up!

This!!

Milwall reacted to last weeks debacle by going to inform Barnsley.

We must add to our performance yesterday and win a couple of away games. If we can do that then 'The Great Escape' is on.

guys- there is a chance now.... next home game against Ipswich who are 6 ppoints above us. If we van win that one then we have an excellent chance of closing the gap to manageable level. Big following at Reading the following week may help us to further points.
Game on as long as SISU dont sell any more players- there lies the problem.

Meant to say Milwall went to Barnsley and took all three points!!

With being 6 points away from safety but still 57 points to play for surely there still is a chance! until its mathematicly impossible theres always got to be hope there.

It's not on us alone anymore.
I just can't see how three other club should fall below us...

2nd goal looked over to me, agreed we have to remember it was ten men but a team that is fourth often had two men on Nimley which created a lot of space. Its also about ime we had some lady luck and yesterday was our time.

It is going to be tough but, we have got easier games than we did in the first half of the season, so if we can pick a couple of results up away from home we will have a chance.

We need to take our current home form on the road and pick up a couple of wins away. Then we have a real chance. Portsmouth could yet go into Administration which will help as well! PUSB!

I think well need Pompey to lose 10 points to be in with a shout.

One things for sure well need to start picking up points away from home.

I don't know the rules concerning administration but because it will be Pompeys second spell of admin i think i've read it will be a bigger deduction than 10 points.
I may and probably wrong, but i am sure i read something about this

Think you're right. Pretty sure it's a bigger deduction 2nd time around.

I think we'll need a deduction to happen to stand a chance, at least that result improved our recent form.. as it stands I think we now have a good chance of avoiding finishing on the bottom, but an escape is still a big big ask.. depends a lot on not picking up any injuries to important players, because we are very light on cover.

Excerpt from last 8 games form table...
16 Doncaster Rovers (23) 8 3 1 4 8 12 -4 1.00 1.50 1.25 10 lDWllWlW
17 Leicester City (15) 8 2 3 3 10 10 0 1.25 1.25 1.12 9 LwDDlDlW
18 Coventry City (24) 8 3 0 5 7 7 0 0.87 0.87 1.12 9 WllWWlLl
19 Peterborough United (16) 8 2 3 3 9 10 -1 1.12 1.25 1.12 9 LlDdwWdL
20 Watford (18) 8 2 3 3 9 11 -2 1.12 1.37 1.12 9 lLlWDdDw

IF other results go our way and we win our next 2 games then definetly BUT if we go another 3 points further behind i feel we are going down next 3 games are crucial to our survival.

9 points from our last 5 games, we are in the form of our season.

I am starting to believe it is possible but we need to start getting some away points especially with big away games like Forest, Bristol still to go to.

We have always been the Great Escape team so why not again. But as mentioned before as long as no more players leave. SISU OUT

We need a few more teams to get get pulled in and us to bridge the gap for us to have a chance of pulling this off....But the Ipswich game a massive one now no matter what happens at Blackpool........

We're six points off and have still to play Ipswich, Millwall and Doncaster at home to name a few. We do have to start getting points away, but thats often through hitting teams on the counter. Well Nimley did that well enough yesterday. It's very do-able

Darlington have been in admin 3 times in 9 years. Each time has been 10 points.

If he pulls this great escape off, what do people think will happen with Andy Thorn? Out of contract, saved us from relegation (hyperthetically) yet contract not renewed? Id personally bring someone else in as manager and let him return to his scouting role. But then again, if we pull iff the great escape, my head says he must have earnt himself a new contract!?! But if SISU are still here, I fear he again wont be given many tools to work with, resulting in a repeat of this season (and I dont think I can handle another one)

If Andy Thorn keeps us up with this squad I'd give him the key to the city let alone another contract.

The real question is what would we do next year?

We need to cut wages again in the summer and will need to make £2-3m in player sales over the season before we've even started.

Imagine starting next year with this squad and only able to bring in loans and frees:

Murphy, Dunn, Burge
Clarke, Christie
Hussey
Cameron, Keogh, Wood
Deegan, Thomas, Bigi
Bell, Baker, Sheffers
ROD, Jeffers

McPake, Herman, Cranie, Clingan, Freddy and Platt are all out of contract and not looking like signing. This summer could be as bad as last.

We won. There is much more than a glimmer of hope. 6 points adrift is not insurmountable if we can win our home games and pick up some points away.

...and Arca was sent off in stoppage time - the 3-1 victory was against 11 men. Credit where credit is due.

Arca was the 2nd player that took it to 9 men. but was good result and more importanly a good performance. we at last turned possesion into goals and seemed to attack with pace and purpose.

So we are 6 points off safety. We are only 9 points off 17th. More teams are being dragged into the relegation battle. We have won 3 out of our last 5 league games. How many more teams can say that? Derby are flying at the moment. We lost to them away. Not outplayed either.

There is a long way to go. We are going in the right direction. I would be more worried as a Florest or Doncaster fan. Plenty more teams coming into the mix.

There's being optimistic and there's being overly optimistic.

Being optimistic = we have an outside chance at staying up

Being overly optimistic = we have a realistic chance of relegation

3 swallows does not make a summer!

So we are all overly optimistic then? :thinking about:

Not me - I'm being cautiously optimistic, I.e hoping we can do it but actually thinking we're still not good/consistent enough to continue this form for another 19 games, which we need to do to have any chance of staying up! )

And rely on the 3/4 teams above us going on a disastrous run.....

And it also depends who is still here in Feb....
