So I see the council have pressed ahead with their plans to redesign the existing traffic light system, and the plans have 'been given the nod'.

Was it ever in any doubt? Even before their 'consultation' process they knew it was going ahead!

Drivers on the A45 in Coventry will be faced with five months of delays after plans to redesign the junction with Broad Lane were given the nod.

The junction, next to the Wing Wah restaurant, will be replaced with a traffic light-controlled roundabout in a bid to reduce congestion at the site where drivers regularly face waiting times of more than five minutes.

It will cost about £1million to complete the redesign and work is scheduled to be finished by Christmas.

Coventry City Council officers insist the new layout will improve the flow of traffic as the junction comes under increasing pressure from new housing in Tile Hill and Canley.

The changes were signed off during a council cabinet member meeting on Tuesday, despite a petition of 241 signatures calling on the authority to abandon the plans. Nobody who had signed the petition attended the public meeting to express their views, but objectors have previously raised concerns over the safety of the new junction layout.

Some changes to the original designs have been made, following consultation with the public, including the introduction of special traffic sensors which will allow residents in Lyndale Road to exit at busy times. The service road on the Dunchurch Highway is also set to be made two-way in order to allow improved access.

Coun Rachel Lancaster

"We have tweaked it so many times, we have done as much as we can without extensive work."

Labour Coun Rachael Lancaster, cabinet member for public services, said the redesign was the only sensible course of action.

She said: “It’s an interesting junction. We have tweaked it so many times, we have done as much as we can without extensive work.

“There’s nowhere to go without changing it.”

Labour colleague, Coun Steven Thomas, agreed with the decision to change the junction.

He said: “This is a very established need that we’re seeking to address. The capacity of the junction is completely overwhelmed.”

Pedestrian crossing

Council officers also say planned puffin-style crossing will improve safety for pedestrians. A slip road could also be created from the Wing Wah Chinese restaurant directly onto the A45.

Work on the new junction will not be paid for by the council, but by the developers of the Bannerbrook estate, in Tile Hill.

There is no point in these 'consultation' processes, the decisions are made regardless of feedback.

About time some of you suffered what those of us on the East side of the city have been suffering!

You should try getting from my house to Southampton (approx 14 as the crow flies).
Allow 20 minutes to get to Cowes from my house. You have to be at ferry port at least 30 minutes before the bloody thing leaves. Depart Cowes (that's if the bloody ferry is on time!) One hour later, arrive in Southampton. Another 10 minutes disembarking. Total travel time for that 14 miles? 2 hours! And then, finally I can begin my onward journey, usually to Cov for a visit. This never changes. And then to top it all, I have the same getting back. Oh life is lovely on the Isle of Shi.... sorry, Wight!

I don't find the current situation much of a problem at all and I usually come down from Buckingham Rise so probably "wait" more than most.

In fact I don't think I've ever heard anyone moan about it so be interested to know why this came about. Interested that it isn't being paid for by CCC though.
