Slow to catch up … Godden has been anonymous for months. The end of last season and most of this.

Still a good finisher but a passenger outside of that.

Collins 8

Clean sheet, did some decent sweeper stuff and no drama. Get an 8

MVE 8

Blistering pace tracking back and didn’t do much wrong. The ball was out but still let’s give him credit for the assist. Links well with Tats.

Thomas 7

Did his stuff and kept his opponent quiet.

Kitching 8

Classy display. Can’t fault him.

Bidwell 6

Needs to whip those crosses over quicker rather than cut back and pass.

Eccles 7

Varied but looking more and more like a decent Championship midfielder.

Sheaf 8

Really assured performance. Good incisive passing and clever interceptions and passing.

Allen 7

Busy. Faded towards the end.

Tats 8

They had to double up on him and that is exactly what you want if you are a striker team mate. He also bombed back and did his defensive job. Excellent. Think it was a mad move to take him off.

Godden 6

Anonymous but did press their keeper which then forced turnovers.

Wright ?

Skied a decent chance. Looked totally dejected and didn’t read the game much. Then he scored, and as I said in the match thread, it might be that he saw the ball go out and the pressure came off and he banged it in. Now look, I’m delighted for him and I hope he gets a new lease of life. Played notably far better after the goal. Rating? Up to 70 odd minutes, 5, afterwards 8. 6.5 from me.

Subs

Ayari 5

Gave away a late free kick and did little else.

Sims 6

Put himself about.

O’Hare 6

Off the pace but a couple of good darting runs.

Lati 6

Steady

Collins 6 - harsh maybe given the clean sheet but his decision making wasn't great
Van Ewijk 7.5 - that's what he can do when he runs to the byline. Some excellent recovery runs too
Thomas 7 - pretty solid again. Some decent headers
Kitching 8 motm - some excellent defending and looks to penetrate with the longer ball. I can see why we spent the money on him now
Bidwell 7.5 - excellent defensively again.
Eccles 6 - lost possession too easily and almost cost us a couple of times
Sheaf 7.5 - such a steady player. Quality. Deserved a goal.
Allen 7 - some excellent running off the ball and decent link play first half. Seemed to tire in the second
Sakamota 7 - most of the creativity came from him. Unfortunately couldn't get on the ball enough
Godden 5 - not entirely his fault but hardly in the game
Wright 7 - mixed bag but decent finish and he has that knack of being in the right place

O'Hare 6.5 - looking sharper and had some good moments
Simms 6 - got himself involved but should have passed when he shot both times
Ayari 4 - not sure what he contributed about from conceding a silly foul and skying a shot. Would have thought Kelly would have been the better option

Agree about Haji - seemed to grow in confidence after the goal. Almost trying to force things before it. Would like to see the offside call again when he was clean through.

I thought so too, midfield a bit lethargic not as sharpe as last match. Sakamoto not as affective as he was at Millwall but service to him not great and when he did get there were two Plymouth tight on him.
But we won and that’s what counts.
Ball well out of play, making it a long trip back to Plymouth.

His punch from the freekick which he directed downwards into the penalty area (which he could have easily caught) and him coming out of his area to tackle in the LB area which was very risky. Although, his positioning as a sweeper keeper was useful for keeping possession, I just felt he was a bit casual getting back into his goal, despite the attempt earlier from Whittaker to chip him from distance.
He also spilled a couple that were straight at him.
On saying that he did well to quickly adjust to save a potential own goal.

Hard to rate as first half I thought we looked good, faded second half... but won.
Collins 7 - good ball skills, did fumble a shot with no consequence but still did it!
MVE 7 - Solid, forget if out or not, the goal showed why he needs to take people on more.
Thomas 8 Solid all game and carried ball out well
Kitching 8 ditto
Bidwell 8 more of a threat than the other flank, strangely.
Sheaf 7.5 eight first half, seven second.
Eccles 7 ok.
Allen 7.5 thought he was outstanding first half but faded second so 9 first half 6 second. Some excellent tracking back in there too.
Wright 8 Some comedy touches, an appalling miss, bit a constant threat and always looked likely to score.
Saka 6.5 started well, faded fast.
Godden 5 he played? Should have squared it to Wright for one chance too.

O'Hare 5 off the pace... but to be expected?
Ayari 5 he played?
Simms 6 more threat than Godden, should have held it up at the end rather than shooting.
Lati only know played as I copied fp's list of players!

Collins looks a really level headed keeper and keeps his concentration levels up even when he isnt involved.

Kitching has attributes to be a very good defender, he is proving me wrong and im glad for that

Thomas same as Kitching, good attributes for the position and the more i watch the more i think he will be a good signing.

Sheaf, very very good player, if he could add more goals and assists to his game he will play higher.

Tats nice balance, good to watch and is getting stronger and starting to use his body better.

All above 8, the rest solid 7 to 7.5.

Wright, im not sure what we have with him but id be more worried if he wasn't getting into the positions to score goals. The only thing i do know is he has lots of room to improve and time to do it. Robins must see it and will be demanding more fr9m him and the squad

Special mention to all the players for joining in the applause. Really nice touch and hope the family find peace and gain strength from the support.

Kitching mom. Thomas improving. Sheaf ultra consistent. Eccles - box to box. Van Ewijk - flashes of being brilliant. Bidwell - gives us defensive stability.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game tonight although bloody cold, Haji scored although he does do some strange things at times he is getting chances, thought Sheaf was fantastic and Kitching too, MVE looked strong and very quick but his crossing was shocking UNTIL the goal which shouldn't have been a goal but hey ...fuck em... Godden wasn't good at all tonight and until I seen him in the 40th minute I had forgotten he was playing, his lack of pace cost him 2 chances at least tonight, Eccles had another decent game although towards the end he was tired and started making silly mistakes but although he doesn't have the quality he put in a shift..

Collins 7 - Feel so much more at ease with him in goal.

MVE 7 - Defensively he was outstanding. Kyle Walker role of sweeping up by using his pace. He's got to improve in the final third. Hopefully the goal will give him belief to be more composed.
Kitching 8.5 - Superb.
Thomas 8 - Fantastic.
Bidwell 7.5 - Solid as a rock. Fans finally appreciating him and I think that's playing a part.

Eccles 6 - Drop off from the level he set on Saturday but solid.
Sheaf 8.5 - Everywhere, literally.
Allen 7.5 - Worked hard as always. Liked the aggression.

Haji - 7.5 - Similar to Saturday. Movement is good and he got his goal. He won far more duels after he scored and he's finally realising he's got the strength and power to beat anyone at this level.
Godden 5 - Unfortunately similar to the rest of the season. Credit to him for his 7 goals but the rest of his game is pretty lackluster. Painfully slow. Robins will stick with him over Simms.
Saka 7 - Took off when he finally started to beat the player. Not as good as Saturday and Plymouth did reasonably well against him. His final ball isn't great.

Simms 6 - Should do better with those chances. Good movement in behind.
O'Hare 6 - Amazing play with Sheaf, Haji and Bidwell down by Singers Corner. Still very rusty.
Atari - Missed a good chance.

Back five superb , think Kitching and Collins will prove to be shrewd buys
Eccles and Sheaf tidy and controlled
Saka and Allen played well for an hour but tired
Wright - Jekyll and Hyde , loose touches , bad attempts but stood up and carried the fight . Got significantly better after he scored
Godden anonymous , need a 9 who will stretch play in this system . Simms looked a constant threat when he came on

All in all decent performance , Kitching MOM for me

MVE had a very good game and with showed some sensible stuff when in some tricky positions and lightening pace to get back.

Two central players both had assured performances and dare I now say , Kitching looking a classy player.

City looked the better team slightly and a welcome win that could easily been a draw.

Collins 8 excellent sweeping and good saves when called upon
Bidwell 7 some good crossing and another solid if unspectacular one
Kitching 8.5 brilliant performance, that 1v1 defending and winning the goal kick was top
Thomas 8 very assured
MVE 8 the championship Kyle walker
Sheaf 7.5 excellent but marking him down for off target shooting
Eccles 7
Allen 7
Saka 7 started really well and had good interchange before departing but fell away in between
Wright 7.5 I called him the chance magnet and he did the job in the end. Ready to fire.
Godden 4 passenger, time to make way

Simms 7 really positive and determined but didn't quite fall for him
O'Hare 6.5 poor when he first came on but grew into it by the end. Just needs time.
Ayari 5

Who knew the Barnsley backline were this good.

I keep saying it but Sheaf drifts out of games, he did it this evening, and when he does is when we come under pressure.

If he could be consistent he'd be heading to the prem.
