Waghorn shouldn't have played* an Extra midfielder was required. To pick up their runners from deep.

We move on.

Reminds me of Rotherham away few years back was a horror show. But We bounced back from it.

Yes,

I’m saying Sheaf got caught in possession and cost us a goal and didn’t look likely to help us get any kind of morale boosting consolation. Ok, we were already 4-0 down.

If anyone ever points out Sheaf having poor positional sense there’s a few clearly blind posters on here who start chatting absolute crap and talk about stats.

Weird.

Sheaf was slow reacting but McFadzean pass set him up and was careless. Players who have really stepped up this season fell down the stairs tonight.

Just back, only Hyam and Allen come out with any credit for me. Moore couldn't do much on yhe goals, front two worked hard but can't remember their keep making a save. The rest pretty abysmal. That said I knew JCS would foul when he got wrong side and despite being pretty sure outside the box, ref was always giving a pen. Horrible one so early and we never settled before it was too late. I know we were hammered and outplayed, but if, if, if that wasn't a pen, it would've been completely different. Not saying we'd have won, but we'll never know.

A good lesson hopefully learned and let's see how we respond on Saturday.

Mistake from Sheaf but he came on at 4 nil down at ht, he was never really going to change things and it was minutes in the legs for Saturday when we will need him.

Just got back.

Their tactics spot on. Defenders pushed really high line up to centre small tight pitch. Played high tempo mixed it up football. Couldn't live with them the left hand they ripped is apart . Adejbajo gave JCS nightmares.

It was a bad day at the office.

Hyam and Maatsen only 2 for me to come out of that with any credit.

Robins tactically got it wrong. Waghorn should my have played. Hamer and Allen over run in midfield.

Maatsen was poor defensively. Hopeless for the 4th goal.

Yep, considering he was playing against a side who had already won the game, he was out of depth. Like a rabbit in headlights.

Gyokeres the only player for me to really show any impression.

O’Hare gets battered during a game and nobody really does anything, that annoys me. I would like to see someone pressuring the ref after the first foul and let him know early to keep an eye on it. And every foul after be all over it like a rash. It’s irritating how we just seem to let it slide and don’t react.

Ok. It was McFadzean’s fault.

Thing is, it was the third or fourth time that Sheaf had given the ball away in the short time that he was on. Watch the footage back.

Ben Sheaf often gives the ball away. He’s a liability. Our form improved last season when we bombed him and got Matty James in. A holding midfielder who flaps as soon as an opponent comes anywhere near is a liabity.

“we were 4-0 down”. Ok. Had we been winning or drawing the Sheaf would have cost us a point at least as he did last season.

Ben Sheaf is like Adam Barton. Some people see something in him - I don’t - it’s their opinion - they are entitled to it.

Why some people have an obsession with idolising a player who is such a calamity is beyond me.

Has to account for the majority of the blame for the 5th goal, but the fact you’re focusing on a guy who came on at half time and 4-0 down as your main discussion point is a little bit odd don’t you think?

I've said it before but we have an incredible ability to concede goals not through one individual mistake but by a combination of 2 or 3 from different players, last night was a masterclass of it.

Moore - 4.

Let 5 goals in and you’re gonna get marked down. Distribution was poor and cost us no end of throw ins against. He’s a good goalkeeper who had a bad game.

Hyam - 6

Was let down by those around him. Couple of decent forward runs, best of a bad back line.

McFadzean - 4

As per Moore - if you’re the skipper, the defensive mainstay and you lose 5 - 0 against a mediocre team then you’re going to get a poor mark.

JCS - 4

Unlucky to give the penalty away and couldn’t handle the big fella he was meant to mark. Poor

Kane - 6

Ok but we miss Dabo. Some good crosses but an equal number of wayward ones.

Hamer - 4

Didn’t see the free kick he gave away that lead to his booking and second goal but after that his head went down and he became a passenger. Couple of good corners but overall poor.

Allen - 5

Was mainly outmuscled and overwhelmed in midfield. A few decent runs but nothing special.

Maatsen -5

Tried hard but everything he did seemed to go the wrong way. Slow tracking back which left us having to deal with an overload on their right. He needs to sort that.

O’Hare -5

Couldn’t seem to get his game going. Gets fouled a lot. This is where we need our skipper / big character player to have a word with the player (in this case Rae?) that keeps fouling him. I can imagine Doyle would have had a “kind word” and a tough tackle to even it up. Needed Kelly on not Sheaf after h/t

Waghorn - 4

1 goal in 8/9 games? Not good enough.

Györkeres - 7

Our only threat. Kept going. Subbed I think as the game was already lost.

Subs.

Sheaf - 10 (MOM)

Never got caught in possession- always found his pass, commanded the midfield. If anyone dare say any different at least 10 people from the Coventry Specsavers Testing Team who post on here will tare you to shreads.

Rose -6

Well we didn’t let any more in

Walker -6

Tried but needs to play off a Target man. We haven’t got one in Vik goes off.

Don’t mention Max else the forum police will have you arrested.

Agree with this more or less but would be tempted to give Waghorn and JCS 3 rather than 4 - Walker 5 for running about a bit and winning a corner

Two players McFadzean and JCS both of whom have been excellent the last few games especially McFadz have their worst game by far together, McFadz poor in all departments heading, passing, marking. hope it’s a one off, JCS improved a little second half but overall a poor game. Be interesting how MR handles this could drop either or leave them to get it right themselves.

You're guilty of the same sort of reaching some posters respond to your posts with.
No ones blaming him for a 5-0 defeat, they're criticising his performance for the time he was on the pitch and hispart in the shambolic 5th goal.

I think the issue is that some are 100% blaming sheaf for that goal. Anyone who has ever played football at any level can see that he was passed the ball and had no call that he had a man on. Then the leap that he is shit and always gives the ball away based on a few times last season, when hes been outstanding in all appearances this season bar last night.

He was definitely partly culpable for the goal though given what had gone on before it seems pointless debating it.

And McFadzean was culpable for a couple too yet the level of comments about him compared to Sheaf is wildly out of whack.

Point is some people are waiting for any fuck up to climb back on their hobby horse. Aside from Hyam and maybe Kane (two players I’ve not been impressed with generally FYI) they were all awful last night. Picking out a second half sub is ludicrous.

I like certain things about his game.

His awareness of opposition players around him is dreadful. Others on here can waffle what they like, but I stand by it: Sheaf is a liability.

Now then:

Nothing worse than someone pointing out a problem without offering a solution.

Sheaf needs to be set aside in training and have one to one training on ball retention. He needs to look around a lot more.

Put 2 or 3 u23’s on him. Each time they nick the ball off him he gives them £20. He’ll soon learn.

Agreed, it was a stupid, rushed pass to a player facing his own goal (quick, short free-kick in your own box at 4-0 down, why?) but Sheaf should do much better. He had a very poor game last night but got to put some context on it, being thrown in at half-time 4-0 down is on a hiding to nothing.

McFadzean did call Sheaf at the very last minute, but surely McFadzean would have seen the proximity of the attacker to Sheaf in the first place.

There was a sense of deja vu about the goal, I can remember us conceding where McFadz played a short pass into somebody who was tackled from which the other team scored. I can't remember who it was.

For a few seasons now I've been arguing that it's ok playing across the back and that it's good to see we're comfortable on the ball, receiving it in tight spaces and playing it out from the back, but there is a time when we do come predictable with it for anyone who has watched and a team that presses with intensity as Luton did last night will always give us problems and when they do it seems our only plan B option is to hoof it. There must be another way and we need to find that variation that means we remain playing the ball without always reverting to type.

It's where he loses the ball.

O'Hare and Hamer give it away in the opposition's half. Sheaf looks far less composed when hassled in our box.

If he starts Saturday in the deep position and Fulham pile on the pressure like Luton, we'll be torn to pieces.
