He was a cheap buy. The biggest reason anyone is interested in him is because we spent big on EMC apparently not knowing that he plays the other side of the pitch.

Strange how he played on both sides for Peterborough and has said himself he is not bothered which side of the pitch he plays on. I love the way these myths created by fans develop.

Fair point. My understanding when we bought him him was that he played across the front 3. My comment really relates to the fact that Robins seems reluctant to use him there when I saw that as being the position he would predominantly be expected to play. Also, on reflection perhaps the club were more worried about Wright being able to complete the games than they were about Sakamoto at the time.

He’s rated highly by Robins, and MR and the coaching 11 are gonna nurture him into a top player. He will be our secret weapon later in the season, Robins just said he needs to help build up Rapha’s durability or something of the sorts in an interview

Are you sure this isn’t duff info? He started 21 games for his Australian club last year, granted much lower level, only thing I can think of is he didn’t look after himself in the close season?

Which would be equally strange if he knew he had a big move to Europe on the horizon.

You've answered your own question mate. It was a much lower level.

The training for the A League is equivalent to L2 level here

Once we get him there he will be a great player sure, but no point in that if he can only last 25 minutes without tearing a hammy. His strength and conditioning is the focus

“We have just got to be careful with him. If I grab hold of him and try to get him out on the grass and up to speed too quickly, chances are that he’ll break down again. But he has got to become robust to have a career in the game. And whilst it’s disappointing, it must be horrendous for him and really frustrating because he came here looking to hit the ground running.”

I find it all a bit incredulous really. He's admittedly not played at the same level before but it surely can't be that far off? The way it has been described it sounds like they've taken somebody from a Couch to Championship footballer scheme.

Good squads rely on adamptabiliy not regidetty. Strength is developed over time. Yes in our world we have spent a lot in a short space of time. But compared to most it is still a moderate spend. Not so long ago we were a skeleton in the desert.

Absolutely. We did some proper patching the play off season. My point here was more that I don't think most of us really expected Raphael to be starting games at this point in his career. I saw him as one for the future/later in the season.

I would have expected him to be at least 3rd choice in that position behind Tats and EMC but Robins doesn't seem to see EMC as a right winger which is what I think has led a lot of people to conclude that Raphael might be playing if fit. I suspect he might still be behind MvE, BTA, EMC and maybe Simms, Bassette and Tavares for the time being but if he can get himself in shape by January - who knows?

I would think Rehab is the most difficult part about being a pro footballer at any point of a career. But for him being young, far away from home and really new to the club is going to be tough on the lad. If he was a few years in the championship career they may of pushed him quicker but if his body is not used to the level needed its going to be a process. They need to build him up to be able to push him harder in his recovery, otherwise they will break him.

Wish the lad well in his recovery and hope he gets back up and running soon. But he needs time now and will need time to make an impact once he is up and running.

It's just people hanging off every word the 'ITK' say around here. Most normal people appreciate some of what they say is correct, some is said with good intention but with a bit of guess work, and some is just complete bollocks.

What does ‘fitness’ mean specifically here… does it mean he’s unfit because he’s lazy and not kept in shape, or does it mean his body is struggling to adapt to a change in regime following an injury. From MR’s comments, unless what he’s said is completely fabricated, it’s the player needs to be primed to perform at the intensity required. Perhaps the ITK information has been misinterpreted or possibly even inaccurate.

Sheaf picked up an injury at Stevenage away and has barely played a half of football yet. He’s not considered lazy.

Yeah, Robins comments doesn't sound like it's an attitude problem, and I don't think he's the type of manager to accept that anyway. Look how he took Haji off at half time on Saturday.
Sounds more like his body is struggling to keep up and adapt to the intensity of a Championship side.

Shame as I was looking forward to seeing him play. Mainly because he has a Brazilian name I think...

Got to think he'll go into the u21s before being anywhere near the first squad.

I know he came in and impressed Robins in pre-season, but the physical issues he's clearly suffered from will have tempered that.

Wearing the number 17 shirt - if we were Birmingham City we'd have retired it.

Last two players I can remember wearing it for us were Gyokeres and O'Hare in the League 1 season, good omen?

If one buys into such superstitions, indeed.

He needs a dose of whatever Vik and COH had whilst wearing 17.
