Yeah, I think we need another winger.

Wright & EMC for the left, Saka & new guy on the right.

Raphael can be 3rd choice on either wing.

Tavares should be loaned out, he needs to be starting regularly now.

Agreed because Wright is covering two positions, how would the team look if say, Simms and Sakamoto gets injured?

I imagine that a loan target will be a winger because we’ve got 3 permanent wingers on the books now.

But you have the issue of the loaning club and player expecting him to play ahead of your own permanent signings ….

I’m sure he could do it but I prefer him out wide where gets more space.

agreed.
i was just thinking, with more winger options, saka in the middle becomes an interesting idea.
i'd certainly like to see it tried sometime.

We can’t have our cake and eat it, we either need to utilise the loan market to bring in that extra quality we need or we sign all our own players.

My expectation this season is that we bring in 2-3 loanees to start or at least be competing for the starting berth. More of a Callum Doyle type loan than a Luis Binks.

Or we sign loan players for positions we don’t already have top talent in …. Left back for example

I expect us to bring in a new striker assuming Godden leaves. Might see Wright play there sometimes but if it was up to me I’d bring in someone to challenge Simms and leave Wright out wide.

My guess is that we have not brought him over from Oz to train with the under 23’s …. But ultimately Robins will have to decide whether the first team squad is too early for him.

I'm sure the scouts will have watched Rapha a number of times, their judgement has been Spot on so far.

ie. Milan, Tats and Hadji.

I'm talking a good 15 years ago now but did anyone else used to watch A-League highlights after getting in from a night on the piss?

Early 2000s, 10-year old me used to wake up at 1am to watch the football highlights on Channel 5. Think it was the Dutch and Italian leagues, plus random Euros U21 qualifying matches.

If we don't move Godden on then King is clearly aspiring for 3 mid table finishes in 5 years, not top 6!

I doubt it was Kings decision to award Godden a new deal.

Robims would have recommended it.

Not necessarily, it’s a position he’s played before and some managers like to overload wide channels by playing a AM who likes to operate out wide. Palmer at Chelsea is a good example where it looks like they’re playing two RW at times.

It’s something I’ve thought about and it’s an interesting idea. Saka’s good in the press, he’s good at dribbling and crossing/assists aren’t his strongest attributes. Yet, I don’t think he’d have enough space as an AM and considering there’s no other credible RW starter, it’s probably not his best position.

Some comments from A League watchers:

"Interested to see how he goes with Coventry, very talented young winger who is direct and plays with good speed and physicality. I would expect it to take a little while for him to adjust to the championship level, but he is a big talent with potential. Had a very solid first season of consistent first team football, but definitely still has some work to do to reach championship standard."

"Insane workrate. One of the hardest working kids I’ve ever had the privilege of playing both alongside and seeing him train live."

Honestly I think he's adapting to the wide role anyway and the USMNT are also wanting him to fill that role as opposed to being a direct forward. I just don't know who's honestly good enough to compete with Simms that's in our price range unless it's a loan move and even then I can't think of any clear talent that's available within our range that'd also fit with our style unless it's in the overseas market.

Not sure how Saka is in the same bracket. He’s significantly older and more expensive. This kiddie expect is more in the Tavares Kaataneer bracket.

If Wimbledon had got their own way and franchised to Dublin as the Dublin Don's...they'd have been very big by now also ...

Not sure they would be considering they’d be playing in the Irish leagues.

Looking at his stats, I could see this lad eventually being turned into a wing back/full back. Got good defensive stats for a winger but not the best attacking ones. Supposedly fast, has a high workrate and can be physical.

Wasn’t aware they’d got permission to play in the EFL. Luckily it didn’t happen otherwise we’d probably have various other countries attempting to put teams into it.

I've always thought it would be cool to have an island team in the football league. Jersey or something.

Careful, then the Sunday League teams north of the border will want to join.
