Nice of his team mates but for me it’s

He is right to be singled out
He’s entitled to his beliefs and to express them
I do wonder whether he would refuse to play against or with or for a gay person. He’s an idiot if he doesn’t think that his personal opinion will affect the lives of those who he says shouldn’t be living their lives how they wish to within the law

I get the argument that it's as bad as racism but people have to understand the links to his religion.

He's not saying he's anti LGBTQ he is just not wanting to promote it. He shouldn't be forced too.

If he had a band saying I hate gays that's different. I know alot of religious people that don't hate gays people but just rather not talk about it at all.

For me guehi done nothing wrong. Just like players that didn't kneel cannot be called racist for it

I dated a girl once for a couple of months and quickly found out she was a devout Evangelist.

She gave me a bible and I took time to read it, but obviously had many questions, as I read.

I approached her about homosexuality and she said that God loves us all. So, I got that vibe from her, in-depth, every time I mentioned it, which I then kept doing.

Bottom line was, God loves us all, but if you are a homosexual, unfortunately, you will be condemned to an eternity of damnation upon your death.

Obviously, there's loads of denominations within Christianity and differing interpretations.

But I have a had this same thing happen before elsewhere.

I think some factions will never, ever accept homosexuality unfortunately.

The campaign is supporting LGBT inclusion.

If you refuse to take part then logically you don’t want to support LGBT inclusion.

What does “promote” mean in this context? No one is trying to sign people up to become gay

In truth though its just a form of gesture politics.

Players could be rabidly homophobic but just put it on to avoid any conflict.

My favourite post on the thread.

Is it right to say you need to respect my religious beliefs, when the religious beliefs are that gay people are subhuman? Being a footballer is more than a job, you're an ambassador.

I have absolutely 0 respect for any religion in terms of institution or concept. Only individuals based on their actions and behaviours, regardless of which god they choose (or not) to believe in, or pray to.

That is all fine and dandy - but that is your specific view which you then wish to enforce on other people and is in reality a condemnation of freedom of thought.

Well you posed the question "is it right to respect religious beliefs" - you clearly think not if it goes against your own beliefs - so does that not make you a bigot as well?

Beliefs should have been in air quotes, not viewing members of the LGBTQ+ community as equal is not a "belief".

At least Guehi wore the armband. Morsy is free to not wear it but still makes him a bit of a c**t for refusing considering he has no issue wearing kits covered with gambling sponsors. It's just thinly veiled homophobia.

A captain is supposed to represent his team. His refusal is a slap in the face to any fans, players and staff that are LGBT.

Come on mate. Douglas Murray is a pretty well known person who many would regard as 'far right', and he is gay. He writes a lot and very well about the threat of Islam to his way of life.

I don't think people with right leaning views are pretending to care about LGBT rights in general either.

Beliefs can (and should) be questioned.

You do not have to respect the belief itself to respect the rights and dignity of the person who holds it.

Absolutely right. I am proud to be a practising Christian but have little time for Bible fundamentalists.

The New Testament was mainly written many years after Christ and is subject to the failings of human memory. It is the work of humans and therefore prone to error both in the writing and the interpretation of it.

The errors include mistakes in translation. It was originally written in Hebrew and Aramaic, then translated into Greek and only about 1,400 years after Christ was it translated into Medieval English. Even after that it has been updated many times.

I wonder what Bible fundamentalists make of the so-called Adulters Bible? An error was made in printing it and as a result the sixth commandment reads, “Thou shalt commit adultery”.

The Bible should be read and interpreted with reason and common sense. I have no doubt but that God loves us all, including members of the LGBGT+ community.
